Weaning and Pregnancy
My daughter will be 6 months old. I am successfully weaning her now to breastfeeding 2 x a day. I hope to be done breastfeeding all together soon. I would like to get pregnant but have not gotten a period. Any advice?

Are you stopping breastfeeding so you can get pregnant? If so perhaps you should rethink it. You have a baby right now who NEEDS you and NEEDS your breastmilk.
Too many women try to get pregnant as soon as possible to have a little newborn again, and forget that they already have a baby.
I hope you rethink this because even your body is telling you not to do it.

deff. talk to your obgyn, but you can get pregnant w/o getting your period and while you are nursing: most people think you cant. side note, wow good luck getting pregnant and having them so close...you will be busy, but I am sure it will be fun! :-)

Are you ovulating? That is what needs to be happening and getting a period does not mean that you are or are not ovulating! I must admit that I think it is better for a woman's body to wait a bit longer but this is your choice not mine. You don't have to stop breastfeeding just because you want to get pregnant. You can be pregnant and continue to BF if you want to. Talk to your Dr about your plans to receive the best info. Good luck.

Dear K., Hopefully soon as your body realizes you are weanig you will have your period babk. I will say After my first, I had cut down on nursing when he was 4 months and teething... next thing I knew I was pregnant and had never gotten my period. My first 2 were 13 months apart and though it was a little hairy I believe it was good for them. I had their sister 15 months later. Grandma Mary

Stop breastfeeding in the next week or so, if you want to have a regular period and want to control your fertility. I BF and didn't get my period until 9 months after. So you could just want and see if you get your period or you could wean sooner.

I nursed my first until she was a year. Although I was taking the Pill, I never had a period. As soon as I stopped taking the Pill I got pregnant with #2. Not having a period certainly makes it harder to time things, but it is possible. Talk to your OB. Good Luck!

I'm sure weaning will help. I never got prego while nursing nor did I get my cycle but I know lots of people who have... My son weaned himself when he was 9 months old, I then got one period, then got prego right after that...Good luck!
