Waves of Morning Sickness
I'm just recently pregnant, about 7 weeks, and of course, a little nervous. I've has what appears to me morning sickness, but no vomiting, and very tender breasts. I've had two positive at home tests and a positive test at the doctor's office. I don't go for my first OB appt. for two more weeks. Last night, all of a sudden, I felt better, no nausea or tenderness. Is this normal? Do these things happen in waves? Should I panic just yet? It just feels so different!!
So What Happened?™
Thank you so much to everyone who took the time to respond to my request. It really helped to read all of your responses, and it calmed me down tremendously. Thanks also for all of the tips...I've used almost all of them!
I had my first OB appt. today and all is well. I my EDD is 10/6/08. Can't wait to have my first ultrasound on Thursday!
I'm sure I'll have more requests soon!
Thanks again!

The same thing happened to me!! I'm 13 weeks and when I found out that I was pregnant, it was like it was playing tricks on me!! I would feel neasous for about 2 weeks and the next week I would feel great!! So I went out and bought the "What To Expect When You're Expecting"! It's perfectly normal to go through it!! I suggest you buy the book!! I've been understanding my pregnancy more and more as the weeks go by!! This is also my first pregnancy and I know how scary it is! With the book, like I've said, I'm understanding it more and more!!

You're fine, relax. Yes, it can come and go. You may have had just a bug of some sort too, who knows.
Pick up either "What to Expect When You're Expecting" or for far more humor, and honesty in my opinion, "The Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy". Go ahead, pick up both. Between those two books (whattoexpect.com is good too)you'll be set to go for the rest of the pregnancy. Congrats!

No need to fret or worry. Morning sickness is different for everyone, with my first child I only had morning sickness for 2 weeks and then that was it the rest of the pregnancy was wonderful, with my third I had morning sickness for 5 months. Enjoy every moment of this beautiful creation that is living and growing inside of you everyday, it's truly a precious miracle.

Good morning! Sounds just like my situation back in '04. My 'morning sickness' lasted just about 2 weeks which consisted only of major nausea. Consider yourself, as do I, one of the lucky ones! Congratulations on that and your pregnancy. Enjoy it!
Hopefully, that is all the morning sickness you will endure.
Have a great day!
Edit: I just read the advice a few below me about checking it out with the doctor. I completely agree. Definitely do that! Never hurts to check. Don't feel like you are being too pushy or overly cautious. This is your body and your baby; stand up for it.

Congratulations! There is no reason to worry at all and there is no rule of thumb with morning sickness. I had three pregnancies and zero morning sickness. Really enjoy this time you have with your baby! I loved being pregnant. I know everyone will be offering their advise, it is only out of sheer excitement for you and wanting to pass on pearls they've learned. So if I may add mine: I used baby magic stretch cream at Walgreens daily and I have no stretch marks (except on my thighs, which I couldn't even see when I was pregnant and therefore never applied there). Also, talk and read to your baby. But please, savor this tine, it is so precious!
Best wishes to you and your new family!

Hi M.,
I wouldn't panic, give it a little time and you'll probably find yourself nauseous with sore boobs again. But if you are nervous, I would call the doctor and mention that all of your pregnancy symptoms disappeared and maybe they'll bring you in earlier just to make sure everything is still okay.
Good luck!

yes, that is pretty normal. morning sickness can vary a lot. some women get really sick and some not at all and it can come and go. It also can vary from pregnancy to pregnancy. Try not to worry, though I think worried is the regular state of all pregnant women. Take your folic acid supplements and enjoy a day that feels good.

Congrats! I was fine 7wks, until my friend who is a RD said, it typically hits around week 8. Like clock work, I was sick until week 16. NOT everyone will have morning sickness, but can recommend preggie pops, ginger ale, ginger cookies or ginger tea to help. Always keep a glass of water by your bed to take sips through the night (as you dehydrate while you sleep) and sometimes bananas can help ease nausea as well as heartburn (in second trimester). It may go in waves, it may be all gone and if it is enjoy the ride! They say that morning sickness is also a sign of low blood sugar (hence morning sickness from not eating since dinner) so eat some protein before bed and keep snacks by your bed as well to nibble throughout the night if you get up, this way you won't wake up with nausea. Vitamin B6 50mg is helpful before bed too. Good luck!

Congrats! It is so normal what you are feeling. One day you will feel horrible, the next day feel you aren't even pregnant. Some women feel no signs of pregnancy whatsoever. Once you get that first ultrasound at 9 weeks, you will hear that heartbeat and then "feel" pregnant.

Hmmm... for me I was fine... Then even the smell of coffee (which I LOVE) made me feel ill. Then out of the blue I drank a glass of grapefruit juice (which I LOVE) and I had to hurl. That was the only time I actually got sick. Don't let any of this bother you - it's just the way it is. Right now I'm pregnant with my second. I bought some daffodils yesterday at Jewel (you know, just an early sign that spring is coming) and today I can't even walk into my kitchen because the smell of them makes me queasy. Oh well. Everyone is different and you shouldn't panic EVER! Just take things day by day and remember that excitement that you have. Congrats!!!

Congrats!!! By now you've probably figured out by the responses that you are normal and ok. I am 30 and just had my first baby, too. It's wonderful! I read The Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy and I have to tell you--I laughed so hard that I was crying. When you need a good laugh I highly recommend it, even if you don't agree with all of her opinions on how to do pregnancy-which I did not. Great book.
Another word to the wise--try not to live religiously by What to Expect When You're Expecting. On the one hand it's wonderfully informative and can be comforting. It can also freak you out and make you a preggie hypochondriac! Everyone is different and unfortunately so is every pregnancy and there really aren't too many rules for normal as you are already finding out. As long as a few very specific things AREN'T happening, then everything else that occurs IS! Kind of annoying.
Also, when you start to need maternity clothes items you should really inquire back here bc women learn that one through trial and error and you can save a lot of time and money by asking those of us that have done it before!
It's great that you already have this site as a resource. I spent SO MUCH time doing so much research via the internet that I have links to everything you can imagine. If you need information, you can email me, I just might have a link! We all have issues that are dear to our hearts and our own unique parenting styles but here are some other websites you might find useful or interesting/informative. God Bless! K.

P.S. I HIGHLY recommend taking a Bradley Birth Course while you are pregnant. You will have ALL the information you need about labor and birth. You AND you mate will find yourselves totally prepared for whatever comes at you. I recommend taking it when you are 6 or 7 mo pregnant. I wish someone had told me; by the time we took ours I had a month to go and I was so big and uncomfortable and you have to sit for 2 hours at a time which isn't easy when you're that pregnant! Cheers!!!

Not to be and alamest, but you might get it checked out. To suddenly feel great really isn't normal. I have had 5 pegs. My 4th one I lost. I always have horrible morning sickness, worst you can imagine, then this one suddenly I felt normal and couldn't believe it.
so, I'd go and get it checked out. I hope everything is ok and you sail through your pregnancy.

Congratulations M.!!! There's a lot of exciting days ahead of you!!!
I am a mom of an adorable 9 week old girl. When I was pregnant, I experienced what you're feeling right now. I felt sick but no vomiting. My breasts were tender too. On some days, I don't feel sick and I feel perfectly fine. In fact, I felt mostly better through the whole course of my pregnancy ( including the first trimester). Don't worry, you will be fine. If you would call your doctor today, they will just tell you to wait for your appointment because they won't be able to do anything right now because it's too early for an ultrasound. So just hang in there and enjoy the fact that you're not feeling sick or uncomfortable. save your energy for the last trimester (which for me is pretty fun but physically tiring).
Hope that helps!

First of all congradulations and if you are trying to avoid the nausea, try ginger tea or cammomile. They are safe while pregnant. I am a registered dietitian and you may check out my web site at www.prohealthviews.com
Another recommendation is juice plus. It's been research with preganant women. www.jpscience.com It's a fruit and vegegtable extract in a capsule, a great way to get the folate needed from fruits and veggies,

Day to day you will feel different, so don't panic. Not sure why you would be nervous unless you have had miscarriages in the past. But if it has anything to do with you age, please don't fret about that. I had my first child at 35, the second at 37 and now I'm 40 on number three. You will be fine. Just get your rest, eat better than you have ever eaten, take your prenatals, and enjoy the miracle of childbearing.

Oh my dear M. Welcome to the world of pregnancy, especially this early part of pregnancy your body just does not feel like it belongs to you anymore. What you are feeling is Perfectly normal!! I would have a few hrs or even a couple days where I felt really good and then my morning (all day) sickness would hit again. If you'd like go to your local walgreens or pharmacy and ask for sea bands they are motion sickness braclets to wear on your wrists, they didn't work much for me but I have several friends that swear by them helping w/ Morn. sickness.

Please don't panic! Then best advice I ever got was from my mom "Everyone is unique and every pregnacy is different." She was right, I was pregnant 3 times and have 4 beautiful boys. Not one of my pregnancies was even remotely the same. I carried them all differently, my morning sickness went from 4.5 months with my oldest to being 7 months with my youngest one, and it lasted 24 hrs a day. It's not fun, but you just keep your eye on the wonderful prize at the end of the rainbow. If you are worried call your doctor and ask his/her advice, that's what they are there for, that's what you are paying for. I hope this will help and wish you a very happy, healthy baby.

Expect pretty much anything and everything, but most importantly ENJOY being pregnant and spending the last 9 months of your life of it just being *you*. Things will change immensely (in a good way), that will make you sit back and think "now, why on earth did I ever stress about not feeling nauseous enough?".
Enjoy the temporary relief from nausea. I never vomited, but I dry-heaved like crazy all the time on almost anything. It got better during the second trimester and then flared up again in the third.
If you still need reassurance, call your doctor. He or she has heard everything and will definitely be understanding since this is your first pregnancy (and if they aren't understanding or kind, then find one who is).

Yes, some days or times of day may be better than others. I found it amusing that its called morning sickness because I felt fine in the morning but was nauseaus all day long! One thing I would recommend that you look into is Dr. Tom Brewer's Pregnancy Nutrition Program. We learned of it during our Bradley Method Birth Prep. classes (highly recommend) and it was enlightening. Key: PROTEIN! You need so much more protein because you are building a whole new person and getting enough prevents so many problems in pregnancy: morning sickness being one of them. One other thing that helped me tremendously was San Pelligrino's Limonata. Its not a soft drink so it doesn't have HFCS but its citrusy and bubbly and helps soothe the tummy.
Congratulations!

I'm excited for you!I was 31 when I had my first child. I was so excited & tended to panic over all kinds of stuff (that was how I operated anyway in those days). When I was PG with my second I got a catalog in the mail that offered relaxation & self-hypnosis recordings. I immediately ordered the one titled, A Relaxed & Enjoyable Pregnancy & Childbirth. I enjoyed listening to it every day. It taught me to slow down & quiet my mind. (I had tried meditation & couldnt get the hang of it.)I even used it in labor & when my Dr walked in & saw how relaxed I was she thought the resident had medicated me. (I actually experienced natural childbirth with all 3 of mine.)Especially if you are a worrier or anxious type I would advise you to learn self-hypnosis. You can find recordings in bookstores or online or you can take lessons with a hypnotist. It's easy & enjoyable.

Congrats on your pregnancy, and welcome to the rollercoaster ride of parenthood!
It is normal to worry about your pregnancy, and while we can all reassure you,
just call your OB and tell them you are concerned and want to be seen sooner.
They will reassure you in the office and you won't have to spend the next 2 weeks
worrying that something is wrong because your morning sickness is not bad and your
boobs don't hurt!
But, hopefully you are reassured by all the comments you received....it is okay to feel good
on some days even though you have had some morning sickness already. Everyone's pregnancy is unique!
Good luck!
