It never fails, once I put my makeup on and the second I leave the house my eyes start watering like crazy, and thats the end of my eye makeup. It ends up looking a hot mess! It makes me so mad because I love me some eye makeup. I dont know what the problem is, I use all different kinds of makeup on different days so I know Im not allergic to ALL of it. I have NO allergies and this doesnt happen when Im not wearing makeup. Its driving me crazy! What do you think the problem is? My sister says she has to use eye drops because her eyes are dry and water a lot. Maybe thats my problem. I dont know. I want it to stop though! I dont wear glasses or contacts. Thoughts?

What can I do next?

My eyes do this with certain eye creams and eye liners. Do you use eye cream? That is always is a big culprit for me. I don't have allergies either, BUT...have something going on with my eyes if I wear the wrong stuff.

Waterproof mascara and toss it every 4-6 months.

Is your make up old? Mascara doesn't have a very long shelf life, maybe you just have to buy new stuff? If you're using eyeliner on the inside lower lid (versus below your lash line), it can irritate the glands and make your eyes water for sure, it's not an allergy, it's your body's defense mechanism.

Hope you find a long term solution, I love eye makeup! :)

switch to Almay products. They work great for my allergies.

I used to have to use allergy eye drops. It was Patanol...which I believe is now OTC. Check at the pharmacy for it.

You're definitely reacting allergically to something!

I'm putting a vote in that there is something you are allergic to, if it's not in the products, something in the environment that is making your eyes water... another thought is if you have really light eyes, they could be really light sensitive, and water when exposed to brighter lights... I wonder if you put sunglasses on immediately before going into the bright light, if your eyes would still water...

In the meantime, I'd try waterproof mascara, and I swear by Revelon Colorstay eyeliner... it is the only kind I use. It goes on smooth (it's a roll up stick, not a pencil), and it wears all day long... even if I'm in water... it only comes off when I take it off...

That's all I've got!

Ok, first wash all of your brushes well with shampoo and let them air dry ... toss out all of your eye liner, mascara and your most often used eye shadows. They are likely infected with a bacteria of some sort and can all be replaced. As well you need to check out your eye make up remover brand, get an oil based Napolean Perdis Auto Pilot or get Ultrabland from Lush cosmetics (a completely different type and it's my fav). You should also understand that your mascara will flake off and get into your eyes and cause irritation after 3months no matter how cheap or expensive it is. I went thru the same thing a year ago and when I found Ultrabland, changed all of my liners and tossed out a bunch of eye make up and replaced my eye liners NO MORE TEARS!!!

I use to be able to wear anything for make up.
I wore contact lenses for a long time and I got more sensitive over the years.
I eventually had LASIK which gave me perfect vision (no more glasses or contacts), but I'm so sensitive to everything at this point even the hypoallergenic makeup has my eyes watering and the rest of my face breaks out, turns red and the skin slightly swells.
I'll try again every once in awhile (with new, fresh makeup and applicators), but the result has not changed in 10 years.
I just can't wear anything except for a little lip gloss.
Allergies and sensitivities can develop any time.
It might be you are just hyper sensitive.

I definitely vote that you are allergic to your eye make up or some other facial product you are applying.

I also thought that I had NO allergies, until a Dermatologist took one look at me, and said I was dead wrong, I have allergies.

So the only thing that works for me is using just waterproof mascara (Maybelline), never any powdery eye products around my eyes, no sunscreen whatsoever near my eyes, which if I use, it migrates on it's own to my eyes and I have to wash all off and start over...and if you insist on eye color, I use a very small amount of a shimmery cream naturual eye color once in a while as this does not flake off and irritate my eyes.

Oh, and try using Claritin for a week, see if that helps any.

I currently use patanol, but mine was an RX, so I don't think its otc. They are miracle eye drops though! I have pretty bad allergies to other stuff, not necessarily the makeup, so it may not be the makeup you're actually having issues with. I can't use mascara at all, just having something like that by my eyes makes them go nuts. I've also been told to keep a close eye on expired make up because it can irritate your eyes.

It's obviously getting in your eyes somehow. It happens to me some days and usually its the lid powder that finds it's way into my eyes. Try changing the way you wear it, not too close to the lash line.

First, unless you've been tested for every single allergy you may want to consider taking an allergy pill. Heck, get a small bottle/box of the generic brand and try it. I didn't have allergies until just a couple of years ago, then all of the sudden my eyes would start watering, especially when I was wearing eye make-up. Allergy pills have been my saving grace where my eye make-up is concerned.

Also, do your eyes water with ALL colors? or when you are just wearing certain colors? I ask that because a friend of mine is allergic to blue based colors... makes her eyes red and watery.

Do you have Rosacea by any chance? I do and JUST started having this terrible problem Last March. I can`t use any make up from Lancolm, Clinique-any of that stuff! I can use Almay or Neutrigena(hypo allergenic) and it seems to be good.
