I just recently opened an account with Washington Mutual Bank. Can anyone tell me anything about the type of service they've received or anyone that you know received from this institution?

What can I do next?

I love WAMU! I have been with them for 3 1/2 yrs and I have never had any trouble. If I have a question, I call them and talk to someone right away and they always been able to help me. I higly recommend Washington Mutual.

I have banked with WAMU for about 9 years now. I've never been happier. If you have any questions regarding anything they will find someone to help you. You also have the online service and it is easy to go in and pay bills. 1-800-788-7000 is their 800 number. I usually never have to wait for service. It depends on the area I suppose. Good Luck.

Whenever we've had questions or concerns, they have dealt with them immediately and satisfactorily. One thing I really love is how the new branches are set up - the tellers don't have access to cash. They do what they need to on the computer, then give you a code to punch in to a cash machine. They advertise everywhere that the tellers don't have access to the money, so with all the bank robberies in the Dallas area, I feel very safe going in there.

I don't know about the checking/savings account experience, but had a horrible home loan experience when we re-financed. Will never, ever, ever, ever do business with them again.

they are pretty good. i like them because my daughter attends Jerry Junkins Elem. in Carrollton and they offer savings account to all the students there. They can open an acct for 25 cents and deposit money every wednesday onto their accts through school and no one has access to them but the kids. I figure if they are that good for the kids they gotta be alright by the adults!

i absolutely love WAMU!!! i opened a free checking and savings acct with them about 8 months ago and i love this bank...so helpful, the ppl are wonderful, they know me by name when i come in and even on the phone when i call the branch...their online bill pay is awesome, and online bank access rocks! and they dont have access to money there so i feel safe from bank robbers...:) also, there was someone who commented about them holding their checks...they only do that for checks over 2000 dollars and they wont do it for your payroll checks...just fyi...and i understand their policy on that...they need to protect themselves and you...i had a roomie give me a stolen check once and my bank allowed me to spend it and when it came back stolen, i was responsible for paying it all back so this is a good thing they do...:)

hope you enjoy the bank

My experience with them was the worst! But this was about 4 years ago. Maybe things have gotten better.

I have two free checking accounts with them and I love them! the office managers and employees are super nice. they have drive-thru service during Saturdays which I use a lot. The online banking is excellent, I also use this feature a lot.

one word of caution, if you're not good at balancing checks and expenses (like me), be careful with the online account statement sice sometimes they update with a little bit of delay from the actual time you used your credit/debit card. so it might show you have more money when you don't.
Good luck with whatever bank you choose!

I had a checking account with them and did not like that bank so I switched to Wells Fargo. I do not like them either. I ahve recently switched again to Bank of America and I like them far better than both of the other banks.

Hi R.,

I have had my checking account with them for the past 6 years. They are great. My only complaint is if you need anything special from them you have to go to the original branch you opened your account at so open it near your home.

We had a checking account with them around 4 years ago and HATED them! They had some screwball policy where they held any check deposited for 10 business days, or 2 full weeks, direct deposit or other. This would mean that we would mean that we would have thousands of dollars in our account, but couldn't touch it to pay our bills. It was the worst banking experience I have ever endured or heard of and I have a parent who works in the banking industry.
Hopefully they have changed this policy and you have a good experience, but we avoid them at all costs!!

They are pretty good, but service in the bank is some times slow. And, I'm sorry, the branch near us is like the International House of Banking. I have to stuggle to understand the english of half the people in there! They did 2 re-fi's for us a few years ago & we always had a good experience. Love their on-line banking options & bill pay.
