When I just wanted to get the dust off the stuffed animals I put them in the dryer on very low heat for about 5 minutes. They were much "fresher"

I do pretty much what the other poster said, if they're not precious i just chuck them in the machine on gentle then hang out on the clothesline to dry. if they are precious, i put them in a pillow case, tie the top shut, then wash on gentle cycle. i also check for "wounds" and stitch them shut so they dont get bigger and leak stuffing all over the wash machine. i prefer to hang them out on the clothesline as the sunshine also kills germs, etc. leave them out for a good long time as they're thick and take a while to dry all the way through. if you put them in the dryer, dont use a high setting. dry on a medium low heat cause freaky things happen to stuffed animals in the dryer. good luck !!

I've found that if you put them in a pillow case and tie a knot, then you can just toss them in with the rest of your wash.

Good luck!

I just put ours in with regular laundry. Warm/cold water and tumble dry on low. I wouldn't do it every week, but when needed they turn out just fine.

Greetings W.: I have always washed my childrens animals in the washing machine. I tend to use gentle soap but that may not matter. For the ones that can't be washed in my machine I go to the lauromat and use the big machines. I actually had one dry cleaned once-- note I said once-- and then I woke up and smelled the orange juice and saw that I had over done it a bit.
If a child gets ill on an doll or stuffed toy I just add pinesol or hexsol to the wash and that takes care of that. Learned that trick while son was in the hospital nurses. I wish you luck on your journey into parenthood- it will be a rewarding experiance. Nana G

Most stuffed animals can be washed in the machine. I put each animal in a net zipper bag (the kind you'd use for washing your lingerie) to help protect it during the cycle. Use cold water to prevent color bleeding. Dry in the dryer, or just fluff in the dryer for five or ten minutes then put them out in the sun to finish drying.

My feeling about stuffed animals has always been this;
A. If it is REALLY precious, hand wash it and put it out somewhere to dry.
B. If it isn't that precious throw them in the washer, if they survive GREAT! if not then out they go. Again, put them somewhere to dry, don't put them in the dryer.

My son has a beloved, beat up purple elephant. He lost an eye in his first year. The lining of his ears has slowly been ripped away. My son asked me to give him new lining not to long ago when he saw me working with some pink velvet. So I did...

That said, that little elephant gets taken away on occasion and put in the washing machine, on the Sanitary Cycle (if you have one... otherwise hot...hot...hot) With bleach... and dried usually 2 times. I don't want mold growing in his belly!

If you have a front loader machine skip the pillowcase & just toss them all in with a few towels, etc.& your regular detergent - for puked on animals add Clorox 2 or Borax to the load. Wash on regular/warm cycle - extra rinse if you think they are still soapy and then dry on medium - or since it's so hot lately put them outside on a towel in the sun if you don't have a clothesline. The only critter I ever ruined washing was a cheapo toy that was a prize at at fair. The ones that look a little flat after drying outside can be fluffed in the dryer on the no heat setting for 10 minutes.

Hi there!

I usually wash them in delicate with the detergent (Dreft)then dry them on low. If the items are small I put them in a pillow case first. I haven't washed anything that says "surface washable only", but I am thinking of trying that in the pillow case and see how it comes out. Good luck!!!

If you wash them inside pillow cases it doesn't ruin the fur on them.
