Wanting to Go Back to School - Toledo,OH

I'm going the same route, yet taking baby steps. Owens offers many Continuing Education courses in the Medical field, such as Phlebotomy, Pharmacy Tech, and EKG Tech. I am currently finishing up the course in EKG Tech. The course is on Saturdays, which leaves my weekdays free to work. It's also a 12 week class so I'm that much closer to getting a job within the field.
Since there are waiting lists at the Nursing schools you may also want to consider starting out being a STNA, as many courses are out there in the area and take as little as two weeks to complete. Again, gets you moving sooner toward your goal. Many facilities then may offer tuition reimbursement to continue toward your RN. So, you're not waiting 2 years to begin school, you're already getting your feet wet.
Besides UT, Lourdes and Owens, you may consider Stautzenberger, Professional Skills Institute, etc. May not be as prestigious as the above mentioned, but you may not have to deal with a waiting list.

I go to Owens for nursing and it is very good as far as being able to have a lot of options for class times but there is a 2+ year waiting list. I applied as soon as we moved up here in June of 2005, and I start Spring of 2008. I like the fact that they have a lot of online classes available that I can do when my little one goes to bed. I don't know of any schools that don't have a waiting list at the time, so working sometime soon probably won't happen. If you went to a private institute (and pay horindess (sp?) amouts of money) then you might get in sooner. Hope this helps.

Well, I am at Lourdes full time for my BSN. I went to Owens first to get the basic classes out of the way and in a cheap manner. I loved Owens, but I really wanted my bachelor degree and let me tell you why it may be a smarter option. While in northwest Ohio, you will not see a difference in pay between Associates degrees and bachelor degrees. However, if you go into Michigan or Indiana or anywhere outside of NW Ohio you will see a 10 to 15 dollar per hour increase just for the higher degree. I chose Lourdes because it is the first school other than Owens that I have found is willing to work with your schedule. Teachers are far more understanding at Lourdes than with my previous experiences with UT. Also, I have done some research and found that Lourdes has a very high standing among future employers in the NW Ohio area.

There are several schools in this area for nursing. Most of them have waiting lists I believe. The best idea is to go to Owens or some place similar to get the basic courses out of the way for less money. Those credits can transfer anywhere plus Owens does have nursing. Good luck, I know what it is like because I went to school full time and worked part time to get my degree in Respiratory Therapy with a young child. It was all worth it now that I am done and can provide a better life for my son.

Hello. I work at Ut and I have two student workers who attend the university as nursing students. They love it here. With UT and MCO merger they now take the nursing classes at MCO not UT. I agree to start at owens because it would be cheaper just for the basic classes. I also suggest going to each college, if you can, and asking for information on the nursing program. Good Luck.
