Wanting to Add a Room

Hey Moms!

My husband and I have lived in our rustic Oak Cliff home for over 20 years and love it! We're now interested in adding on a room, possibly over the garage and have heard horror stories about contractors....everything from shoddy workmanship and overpricing, to contractors absconding with funds and leaving work undone. Has anyone used or does anyone know of an honest, reliable contractor you would faithfully and comfortably recommend? A godly, Christian contractor would be a beautiful thing.

What can I do next?

Hi Debora -

I have a sideline business doing marketing and new business development for small businesses. One of my clients is an electrical engineer and general contractor.

His name is Joe Whitfield of Jomar Enterprises. You can reach me at ###-###-#### to set up a meeting. I can also provide you with his resume.

I was just at a meeting this week where a woman spoke of title insurance and how important that is, esp on large home renovations because contractors use sub-contractors and if they do not pay them those subs can go after you and put a lein on your home (even if you prove you paid the contractor in full).

I would call her and just ask her about it, it sounded like it was very worth while to make sure that you were covered under a situation like this.

Rita McGee, Stewart Title, ###-###-#### ____@____.com

She is REALLY nice and would not push you to buy something or follow up with you, she is a mom like us and she used to be a divorce attorney, she is now a title lawyer and understands real estate law.

Hope this helps!

Hey Deb
My dad is a contractor and is about as honest and hard working as they come. Send me a private message and I'll shoot you his info:) He just totally gutted a small 800 sq feet house for me in two weeks so that me and my girls would have somewhere to stay. You'd be totally shocked if you could see what he did. He used to specialize in buying houses that had been burned or flooded and totally re-doing them to rent out. You'll know from meeting him what a hard working guy he is.

We remodeled our kitchen two years ago with Servant Remodeling and Rob Jackson the owner is wonderful. He stuck to he estimate (which was the lowest we got), was on time and finished in the time he said her would. It is a christian based company and he is a wonderful honest person, I would recommend his company to anyone. It was a great experience. www.servantremodeling.com

Don Marshall, ###-###-####, did a great job for us. He was direct, but kind with his communication. He was honest, he did what he said he would do and he did it for the price he said it would cost. I would call him back in a minute if we needed further work done.

You should not have to pay a good contractor anything until the job is finished and inspected and up to standards.
