Want Recommendations on Rural Internet Service Providers

Living in the country is great, until you try to find high speed internet. I'm having a hard time finding high speed internet service that isn't satellite. Does anyone have a recommendation on which is best (Wild Blue, DISH, etc.), or better yet, do you know of a good broadband provider that services rural areas (west of Fort Worth)?

Thanks!!!

What can I do next?

We are from Aledo as well & we use Verizon high speed modem. It runs $60 a month but worth it for the trade in our time. I use it to pay bills & Mamasource ;~). My husband uses it for work & my daughter uses it for the dreaded myspace. One of my coworkers told me that Verizon has another plan that runs about $40 if you wanted to downgrade. We are thinking about switching. You'll have to sign up for a 2 year contract (of course!) Sprint also has a similiar program. We used to have AT & T DSL but we lived in Willow Park. It's only available in certain parts out there in Parker County. Good luck!

We live north of Weatherford and none of the normal providers service our area. We ended up going with CIT Broadband (http://www.citbroadband.com/faq.html or ###-###-####). My neighbors went with Extreme Internet out of Mineral Wells.

Hi K.,

We live in Aledo and had the same issue. Our neighbor told us they just live with slow dial-up. NOT FOR US! I don't know much about Wild Blue or DISH but you might want to consider Unite Wireless in Weatherford. They were very helpful to us. I don't think it's too complicated of a set-up. They just have to be able to point the receiver to one of their towers and every now and then severe weather will cause it to move and they have to reposition it. Other than that we're very happy with our wireless internet and it's nice not to have to stay in one place with our laptops.
Hope this helps!
