Walking Shoes for Mom

We are going to Disney this fall and I am a flip flop person. Do you have any certain shoes that you would recommend for all the walking I will be doing that are NOT tennis shoes. My sister has some Crocs that are flip flops and loves them but before I get them I wanted your input.

Thanks

Just an edit, I meant that I want to know of any brands of flip flops or sandles, not casual shoes. Thanks

What can I do next?

In the fall, you may encounter rain (going to Disney in CA? or FL?). I love Clarks shoes because they're so comfortable; however, they're not stylish, so you might rule them out if that's a key factor. Clarks make sandals, too.

I can walk the park all day in my Reef flip flops. I have crocs that I like to wear around the house or while I'm doing a lot of baking or cooking but they don't go out of the house because I think they are ug-lee!!!

I think it is okay to wear flip flops to Disney. I just went this year and wore my dorky tennis shoes sometimes, flip flops that have enough cushion are fine. I don't remember seeing any signs for rides where I couldn't' wear my flip flops, and I went on tons of rides. California Adventureland probably has different rules for their rides.

I have 2 pairs of croc sandals - a 'flip flop' style & a 'dressier' pair that have a criss-cross pattern; I love them both. But let me caution you - if you have any back, knee, hip or any other lower body problems, crocs are THE worst thing in the world to wear! The lady I visit for my orthodics told me it's like a smoker - at the time, the cigarette feels great, but you're killing yourself! There is absolutely NO support in them. But, for a day at the park, no issues - but for me, I need to get right back into my runners & orthodics! But I don't think you'd make a mistake buying croc sandals, for sure. Have fun.

Crocs are really comfortable!I would stay away from flip flops and Disney World. 3 years ago, my flip flop got stuck in some uneven pavement at Disney World, I fell and spraigned my ankle. Thak goodness, it was the last day before going home!

I have some Teva sandals that I love! They haven't survived Disney but I always wear them to the mall, zoo, etc. I've never had a blister or even sore feet.
Have fun!

I used to work at a shoe store (and also have been to Disney numerous times - my sister worked there) and highly recommend Keene sandals. They are very supportive for your feet and arches while being fashionable. I agree with the previous response about crocs not being good for anyone with any type of back, leg, feet problems. They feel good in the beginning but are not worth it later. Also, make sure you have shoes that are going to stay on your feet if you plan on going on rides or plan on holding onto your shoes. Have Fun!

Easy Spirit and Clarks make comfy casual shoes. I also have crocs that are really comfy and I wore them a lot at the end of my pregnancy 'cause they were easy on swollen feet (now they are mostly worn indoors).

I worked for an outdoor shoe company for years. Crocs are NOT the way to go. Your best brands to try are Teva, Keen, Reef, or Merrell. In fact the shoes that strap over your feet completely are a little better than flip flops, but they are still waterproof and good to wear in the parks.

I just had to comment on this posting. I bought a pair of Chaco sandles from Moosejaw, and they are super comfy! They're not cheap, but they last! And they are super supportive. It got rave reviews on their website. You should go try a pair on.

I agree on the birks. I have a couple pair of them that aren't typical looking Birkenstock. I've worn them for years. I also heard that the crocs are bad for your body as well. I have knee problems and can't wear them.

Yes Crocs flip flops are the best!!! I have the "capri" style-they have been discontinued but you may still be able to find them online-I don't know why they were discontinued as I think they are the most comfy, cushiony of all the flip flop stlyes. I went 3 years ago to Disney and my choice was to spend $40 on flip flops or on tennis shoes, and I am so glad I went with the crocs. I wore them for 9 Disney days-walking like 5 miles/day, and they were great. I was so sad to see they had been discontined but thank goodnes I found them online -cuz we are going to Disney again next month. I actually bought crocs for the whole family. They are super light weight-great for water rides. I also have a few other styles (high heels too!), and I love them all. My friend thinks it's totally rediculous to pay $40/flip flops, but I tell her that they are like my tennis shoes. :)

You have to be very careful and replace them as soon as the tread wears out cuz they will be super slippery on wet pavement- a lot of people have gotten hurt and blamed thier crocs...and I've also read that you should never pump gas in them cuz the material will melt if gas touches it-don't know how true it is, but I don't risk it. :)

oh yeah-the Crocs store at Partridge Creek was having a sale on open toed, summer styles buy one regular close toed pair, get one open toed 1/2 off...not sure if that is still going on, but I would assume so since its the end of summer.

I have been told that Keens are great. The person that recommended them to me said that she walked around Disneyland for 3 days with no blisters.

My suggestion is to get a good pair of sandles that have arch supports i do know there is a pair of flip flops with arch supports at Hallmark there those ones that you can change the style by changing straps. Theres also birks you can get those are good and those are sandles but expensive i think. Good luck.

Ok, I know they are not the most attractive shoes on the planet...but....I am a firm believe in 'theme park crocs'. We did 6 days at Disney last year...never once thought about my feet. Crocs are crazy comfortable and they can get wet and dry quickly. Also did a 4 day weekend at Universal with 10 hour park days....again, like walking on an ugly cloud! LOL Have fun!

I have 2 pair of Croc flip flops. They are great for walking. There seems to be a breaking in period though. They are just alike except for color and only 1 pair wore a blister. Can't figure it out. If you have time to break them in, they would be wonderful for Disney! They came in 2 days. I don't remember the online store but you can do a search to fine some styles that you like. They have a lot of online stores that have free shipping and they come quickly too. Good luck!

I love my Keen's! I got them several years ago, when there were not many colors available. Now, they have tons of colors, even choices of neutral that go with everything. I can wear them for a full day around the house, I got them for our honeymoon and wore them almost everyday, allday! They are about 90 bucks, but well worth it!

I agree with the others who said Crocs are so bad for your body! My father-in-law is a podiatrist and said they're ok only on occasion. My parents went to Greece this summer and my mom bought at pair of Keene sandals before she left. She walked all over Greece for over a week in them and never was sore or had any kind of blisters. I've heard other people say too that Keenes are the way to go! Bonus, they can get wet and still hold their traction/grip :) Have fun at Disney!!

I wear J Crew flip flops for Disney (have done it on 3 separate trips now). I buy the ones with a slightly thicker sole and elastic straps (they stay on my feet better and help avoid blisters). I believe they're called "elastic wedge flip flops". I have a bad back and my back has actually done BETTER when I wear these flip flops as opposed to even running shoes. Here is a link to them: http://www.jcrew.com/browse/single_product_detail.jsp?PRO...

Although the site says they're sold out right now :( I don't know how soon you are going so this may not work out for you...
