Walking Pneumonia - Belle Plaine,KS
hey mamas, i was diagnosed with walking pneumonia about 2 weeks ago. the dr gave me the z-pack medication and i have been finished with that for a week now, i have also been doing breathing treatments to see if it would help. it has a little but not much, my question is how long does this usually last? i am extremely tired of coughing and want to feel better again. have any of you had walking pneumonia, and if so, how long before you got over it? should i go back to the dr and get rechecked? any advice is appreciated. thanks a bunch, R.

I don't 'exactly" know what I'm talking about, but I am dealing with pneumonia in my 1 year old right now. He was actually recently hospitalized for it so I'll tell you what I've gathered from all the Dr. visits, etc. Actual "Walking Pneumonia" is different than regular pneumonia and should be treated differently, this is determined with a blood test. There is a thing going around right now called "Bronciolitis" (not Bronchitis) and it causes a cough and can cause regular pneumonia and lasts about 6 weeks from start to finish. Hope that information helps. My son does not have Walking Pneumonia and he does not have a cough. He has been doing 4 breathing treatments a day and recently had his antibiotics switched. I wish he dID have cough, at least then he would seem sick! haha! Good Luck!

I just got over this! I too was on z-PAC but it did nothing for me so I went back to dr and got an inhaler and a stronger prescription (can't recall name) and the two in combo helped! Get it rechecked as you can crack your rib area with all the coughing and that hurts worse!

pneumonia coughs are the worst and can last for a couple months - longer if you smoke, or ever have. sorry this doesn't help but i know the cough is the hardest to get rid of. stock up on cough drops and hang in there!

I'm going on month 2 (8th week) of walking pneumonia. It started as H1N1 then moved into my chest and got regular pneumonia, then downgraded to walking pneumonia. I've basically been sick for about 3 months total and have been on 3 sets of antibiotics including 2 rounds of z-pack. Still coughing and still have sinus pain. There's just really no way to tell how long this stuff can last. I'm due to deliver a baby in a few weeks so not looking forward to coughing after a c-section. Hope you get well soon!

Hello R..
I had Pneumonia 4 months after I had my beautiful daughter. I am not sure what is the difference between Walking and the regular one and what kind I had but I will tell you to be very careful next 2 months and take care of yourself.
For me very helpful was to eat lots of lemon and honey.
Good luck.
Get well soon.

At least call your doctor (they may have you come back in). Zithromax only has ok coverage. There are other antibiotics that have better coverage. I have already had an infection that failed Zithromax this season.

Hello!
My sister is on her second bout of walking pneumonia. She is in a really remote area with little access to medical care. She has learned that there really is nothing to do to combat walking pneumonia. Antibiotics don't help, unless you have an infection. Home remedies and time are the two best cures. A hot shower, honey and lemon in hot water, a humidifier... those and rest are your best bet.
Good luck!

I had walking pneumonia when I was 8 months pregnant and ended up with a cracked rib from all the coughing. My doctor finally gave me Tylenol with codeine which actually helped the cough.
