My friends daughter's doctor told her that not only are walkers dangerous (stairs and things) but that the way they lean and walk in them can cause the bones in their legs to become deformed. We got my daughter a walk-about, because she could walk around a little bit but not so much that it was dangerous.

I don't think walkers are recommended anymore for safety reasons. Walkers also develope the wrong muscles too early. Babies can use a stationary activity center as soon as they can sit up.

Hi M....... I have never used a walker. But as far as the saucer, I believe it is once they can hold their head up on their own. Maybe around 4mo? I cant remember the exact age, but they still may be small in it and cant keep their balance, I use to tuck a small blanket or towel around them so they dont wabble around. But I'll tell ya... I used a saucer for my 1st born, til he was able to climb in it himself...... but my 2nd, she climed out of it at about 11mo old!!! Almost head first...... so I didnt get much use out of mine the 2nd time around. I put it away after that........ Hope this helps.

Hi!

We have an exersaucer and 4 months is the earliest the manufacturer recommends. I'm not crazy about walkers. I've seen too many walker accidents and 'they' now say walkers actually impede a child's progress in learning to walk. My boys were both crazy about the exersaucer and it's so portable! Hope this helps.

Hi M.-
Not sure how old your baby is, but as long as he/she has developed good neck support, you can use a walker/saucer.

Hi M.,
Well i quess it all depends on the baby. Every one is different, some get really bored at an early age and like the stimulation. Have you spoken to your pediatrician about this. Or maybe referred to a "what to expect " book. That can be helpful to. You"ll know if your baby isnt ready just by putting them in a saucer. I would go with a saucer 1st, then as he/she gets older swith to a walker. Of course they can't go far in a saucer and terrorize pets or tear down everything in sight! :) I don't agree with what is being said about walkers & it affecting the leg mucsles. BOTH of my daughters used them, and they have been absolutley fine!!

Have fun -- its great to watch them develop in to the wonderful little people they become!
