Walk-behind/ride-on Items

Does your child have a walk-behind/ride-on toy that they love? I'm thinking about getting one for our son who is pulling up on furniture, cruising along, and moving from one stationary item to another.

I'd love to hear your recommendations!

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the input. We ended up getting a Fisher Price thing that resembles a car (mostly because I could not find the lion!) and it is the BEST present he got for Christmas. He just walks back and forth and back and forth, while walking and pushing. I think he is really enjoying his new freedom and skill.

We have the Radio Flyer walker wagon...and it is the absolute best! Even now that my daughter can walk, she still loves to use it to put her toys in!

My 11 mo loves her stride-to-ride lion. It was voted one of the best toys of the year by Parenting magazine and we got it when she was around 9 months old and cruising. She's just now starting to walk but still loves it - its nose is button that when pushed make music, and the handle can lower to become a seat for sitting on and scooting. High recommended!

I got the Radio Flyer Walker Wagon for my daughter's first birthday (she's now 2). She started walking w/in 2 weeks. It's honestly tied for my top toy spot (that and our toy kitchen). There is resistance, so it doesn't just roll away from them. It is still used daily by my 4 yr old and 2 yr old. Since they like to "ride in it", I removed the rails.

Well worth the purchase for us. My 7 month old will use it too!

Hi - My sons loved their fire engine with Disney characters. I think we bought it from Target or Toys R Us. They can sit or walk behind it. The seat has a compartment for storing things. Please do NOT get the Hungry Hippo that comes with the see-through blocks. It doesn't work on carpet or hard woods. Waste of money. Both boys hated it.

My son has the Tonka walk-behind that converts to a sit and scoot. He really loves it. He is walking on his own now, but he still pushes it around.

For my son's 1st Christmas 3 years ago(he was just starting to take his first wobbly steps) we got a walk behind block cart from Parents brand. It's official name is PARENTS® AROUND THE BLOCK WAGON. I found it at Target, but you can also order it from Sensational Beginnings if your Target doesn't carry it or you just want to see what it looks like. He absolutely loved it (it's filled with 3 different kinds of blocks -- 15 wooden ones, 15 fabric ones and 10 rubber ones) and now it is my 8 mos old daughter's favorite toy. It still looks new. Some of the blocks are a little worn -- especially the fabric ones -- but other than that it has held up exceptionally well.

We got this for my son
http://www.hasbro.com/tonka/default.cfm?page=browse&p...

He LOVES it (as does my 4 year old!). Before he started walking, it was great for him to walk behind (the brown seat part, re-attaches to the back as a "handle" - not sure if there are other pictures in this link). He's been walking for a bit now, and we just haven't moved the handle down for it to be a true ride on toy.

The cool part of this one, is that it scoops up toys (that it comes with - ha, can you imagine if it scooped ALL of them?) and it sort of teaches a hand-eye coordination to watch where you are "driving" in order to scoop them.

Anyway, I didn't mean for this to sound like a commercial, but we really like it!

We got my daughter a super cute walk behind toy mostly because WE thought it was adorable. Fortunately, she loves it even more than us. We got it at a local toy store, so I'm not sure where they are available. But it's all word and has alligators that chomp as she pushes it. This is the info off the bottom of the toy.

My daughter loves/loved her toy car that she could sit on or even stand behind and walk (disney). My son liked pushing her too. We also received a little stand/walk mower thingy too they liked but not as much as the disney car.

I found a great deal on a Chicco toy at Costco. It has 4 different settings that can be used from the time baby is 9 months (you can strap him in and use as a "rocker", then change it as they grow and walk). It was $20 cheaper there than anywhere else, including online stores. Also, my nephews have always LOVED the Push-n-ride Racer made by Little Tikes--can't find them in stores, but you can order them from the Little Tikes website. Good luck!

We have the Playskool walk and ride. It can either be a walk behind or a little sit on toy. My almost 10 month old daughter loves it. The only problem is that it's difficult to turn. It was fairly inexpensive also. We got it at Target. It has a few 'toys' on it, but not much. If it has too many things on it that make music, etc, they won't use it to walk with.

My youngest has the Playskool Step Start Walk n' Ride. She love it her paw-paw got it for her birthday it is at Wal-mart for only 19.97 right now. We also got her a fisher price walk-behind that turns in to a lil' wagon that she can pull around the house. These are the only two things that she is really into right now, both of them have activities on them that she loves to turn and play with.

I have a fisher price lion that my sweetie can sit on or push from behind or head. I also have a leapfrog walk along that has activities - a little like the leapfrog activity table. I find that my little 7 month old who cruises loves to play with the wheels of both and she will get up and push them but they do go faster than she can, so she needs supervision. I read on the target website that this is a common issue. We certainly enjoy them but at this stage she does need close supervision with them. She also really enjoys the activity table that she can cruise around. Since it is stationary, this is a little better for her, though she does enjoy her lion. I also bought lots of those colorful foam tiles and put them all over my wood floors so that if she falls down she doesn't get hurt.

My son has had few and has loved most of them. His fave is the radio flyer cart. Looks like a wagon but much heavier and smaller. He still uses it to this day when playing and he is 2! It is very sturdy which is great when they can't balance themselves yet. It is heavy so while they can push it with ease, it doesn't send them flying across the room! Here is the link to their page if you are interested. It is called "Classic Walker Wagon"
