Olive
Cute name

And, regardless of what Kardashian is nicknaming her baby "Nori."
It is actually a Japanese word for "seaweed."
Which is the color, of black.

I like both the names - but I'd have to see the dog first...that's me.

How is she going to be delivered/arrive? Keep in mind Christmas morning is a VERY hectic time and some puppies might be overwhelmed with all the craziness...

Look at her and see which one she responds to best...dogs are good at that!! :)

Our neighbors chocolate lab is named Bailey - she's a great very friendly dog.
What name ever you pick, be sure you are comfortable shouting the name across your yard and neighborhood.
I'll pick Layla - it'll carry well as you yell it.

Here's that old joke about a dog named Sex:

Everybody I know who has a dog usually calls him "Rover" or "Boy." I call mine "Sex."

Now, Sex has been very embarrassing to me.

When I went to the City Hall to renew his dog license, I told the clerk that I would like a license for Sex. He said, "I'd like to have one too." Then I said, "You don't understand. I've had Sex since I was nine years old." He said, "You must have been quite a kid!"

When I got married and went on my honeymoon, I took the dog with me. I told the hotel clerk that I wanted a room for my wife and me, and a special room for Sex. He said, "Every room in the place is for sex." I said, "You don't understand. Sex keeps me awake at night." The clerk said, "Me too."

One day I entered Sex in a contest, but before the competition began, the dog ran away. Another contestant asked me why I was just looking around. I told him I had planned to have Sex in the contest. He told me that I should have sold tickets. "But you don't understand," I said, "I had hoped to have Sex on T.V." He called me a show-off.

When my wife and I separated, we went to court to fight for custody of the dog. I said, "Your Honor, I had Sex before I was married." The judge said, "Me too." Then I told him that after I was married, Sex left me. He said, "Me too."

Last night Sex ran off again. I spent hours looking around town for him. A cop came over to me and asked, "What are you doing in the alley at 4 o'clock in the morning?" I said, "I'm looking for Sex."

My case comes up Friday."

I like the name Olive.

On the other hand, you could let your kids vote on the names and see what they come up with.

Have fun with the new puppy!

It's hard to pick a fave! I like your meanings behind the names!

We have a chocolate English cocker spaniel and her name is Coco

2 of our Cocker's who have already passed on and we had before we had our daughter were named after our favorite fine wines... Margaret Bealiou ( Magge) and Franklin Bordeaux ( Frankie or Bordo)

Enjoy your new pup!!

OLIVE, definitely!

I love the name layla, but it's so close to lola, which has been overdone... I think Olive is a much more versatile name, anyway. :)

In any case, yay for your new puppy, and no matter what she's named, what fun it'll be to have a little roly-poly around! Good luck with her!

IMO if the dog is for the kids you should let them name it.

I absolutely have to second the person who pointed out that you have to be comfortable hollering out the name in the backyard a thousand times a day! For that purpose, I think I like Olive best, but Layla is cute too. I'd caution against letting the kids name her, assuming you have more than one. We just did that with my kids and it became an all out battle over who would win. We finally pacified my youngest by letting her get a build a bear dog and name it whatever she chose. Yours may not be as competitive as mine, but I really wish we had just named her before they met her. Congrats on the new baby!

Olive, definitely. Way more unique! I think I've met at least 4 dogs named Layla, and it's starting to cycle up as a popular baby name too (at least in my world).
