Vomit on Carpet - Best Cleaning Method

My son vomited on his bedroom carpet the other night. I cleaned it up as best I could with soap & water and vacuumed the area, but the stench is unrelenting.

What is the best product/method to remove the stains & the smell?

What can I do next?

Thank you all so much! Can't wait to go pick up some "Nature's Miracle," which seems to be very popular.

Tea tree oil and water. Tea tree oil is a natural anti bacteria and fungus. This is what I do whenever my son is sick (which is often :( ) No smell.

Nature's Miracle or something else from a pet store. You have to saturate the area with the product, but it does really work.

You might want to try Nature's Miracle. You can get it at pet stores. I'd test a patch of carpeting first though. Good luck.

I used vinegar and water when my kids were sick. We lived in an apartment at the time and they had commercial grade carpet. It stunk with 3 kids sick at one time. I put the vinegar in a squirt bottle with a little dish washing liquid. It got the smell out quickly. The stain was not bad in the first place though. Maybe a little oxyclean will work for that. I use Woolite trigger spray with oxyclean in it for my couch so that might work as well.

Kids'n'Pets, Natures Miricle, ANY of the enzymatic cleaners.

The enzymes break apart the biologicals (microscopic particles of decaying food, acids, salivas, bile) into their component parts, completely neutralizing them.

You have to SOAK the area (to also soak the carpet pad to get the nastiness that's soaked through), and let it sit for several hours or overnight (just throw a towel over the top so people don't step on it)... but when you're DONE the vomit is completely, and totally, GONE.
