I'm sure there are several....where can I (my family) do volunteer work or community service in Denton?

What can I do next?

Denton has a RedCross on Woodrow between Spencer and Shady Oaks. The animal shelter on Woodrow would probably glad for the help. There is also a Salvation Army on Mckinney at Audra (right next to Texaco). You could also talk to the people at the Habitat for Humanity Resale Store at the traffic circle where Shady Oaks and Teasley meet. They can help your family get involved with Habitat for Humanity.

Greater Lewisville Cares offers a great program for families wanting to volunteer in Denton County. They work with many local non-profits and put together a monthly calendar of their needs. They offer flexible opportunities, with no long-term commitments, and have lots of options for younger kids, too.

Salvation Army, Cumberland Children's Home, Friends of the Family, Our Daily Bread, Meals on Wheel, Interfaith Ministry, Denton Christian Preschool....there is ever a shortage of non-profit organizations in Denton that need help. If you are interested in a woman's organization that has been around since 1973 and whose purpose is to promote volunteerism in the community and raise funds for charitable projects, check out the Denton Benefit League's website - www.dentonbenefitleague.org. They do amazing work and since 1974 have distributed over $3 million in grants to many non-profit organizations.

There is a new tuition-free volunteer based private preschool for children wiht special needs that needs volunteers. Little Lighthouse Denton is the name of the school. http://llhdenton.org/
Or you can e-mail me and I'll get you the direct contact for the volunteer coordinator. They need everything from in-class volunteers to help organizing supplies.
