Hi Momma's-

I recently had a baby and am looking for some good vitamins. With my first baby, I started losing my hair shortly after delivery and it wasn't until I was pregnant again that I got it back. Now that it's back, I want to keep it. Can anyone recommend some good vitamins that I can take that will help with this and getting my body healthy?

Your help is appreciated!
N.

My daughter is 5 months old now, and I am still taking prenatal vitamins. I don't have a prescription, but they have generic prenatals at Wal-Mart, which is what my doctor had me on while I was pregnant. I would recommend trying those. Hope this helps!!

N.,
Before, during and after my two pregnancies I've taken Nutrilite vitamins.
They're the best, you can look at www.nutrilite.com for information.

I am just now going through that hair loss stage, and my third is three months old. I also lost a lot of hair with my other two. From what I understand, hair loss is a normal side effect after pregnancy, because you are not losing your normal amount while you are pregnant. Because I am nursing, I am still taking prenatal vitamins. Maybe your doctor will renew your prescription?

Congrats on your new addition!

Just so you know hair loss is very common after pregnancy. That has to do with your hormones and is completely normal. I am a personal trainer and I have found a company that really has an awesome line of vitamins and supplements. You can go to the website www.unicity.net/K. look under vitamins "Core Health". With vitamins and supplements you are definitely gonna get what you pay for. If you go for cheaper brands, some of them are not even worth taking at all. If you have any more questions you can email me. But the website contains a lot of information you can use just to educate yourself.

I agree with the previous post from Courtney. It is often one of the enjoyable "side effects" of pregnancy to have thicker/fuller hair. Some hormones of pregnancy alter the natural growth/loss cycle of hair, slowing the loss end of the cycle. As hormones return to normal after delivery (usually at 3-4 months postpartum) you see a temporary increase in hair loss. But really your hair is returning to its pre-pregnancy state. Vitamins can be good for healthy hair and nails, but there is really nothing you can do to stop the normal postpartum changes. If you want to read a more detailed explanation there are a couple articles on babycenter.com, just search for "postpartum hair loss".

I am actually still taking my prenatal vitamins cause I am still nursing. I too lost a LOT of hair after pregnancy and in areas where I had less hair growth, went back to normal. In the past I have taking Vitamin E - it helps stimulate hair growth/nail growth. You might want to give that a try. Also Nioxin makes a shampoo to help with thinning. Good luck.

Hi N.. Go to remedyfind.com this is a great website that gives reviews from people and informs you professionally about various vitamins, supplements or herbs. You can find the best reviewed remedies by locating "hair loss" on the extensive list they provide or just type it in under the search. You can find info on just about anything here. I have used it several times and it's helped me research the right vitamins and the best companies to buy from. Since you have kids, it also gives lots of remedies for childhood issues. By the way, FYI Whole Foods has many of the reviewed and better quality products. You will love this website.

Good Luck! Katherine

Dear N.,

I would advise you to check out Shaklee vitamins. They are all natural and they give you a 100% Gaurantee on their products. So if you take them and are not satisfied they will give you your money back. I have been taking their vitamins for a couple of years. I started when I was pregnant with my second child. And she is now two. You can either get a hold of me or go to www.myshaklee.com but you have to be a member to order. If you would like to try them without being a member call me and I can order them for you.

You will naturally lose a lot of hair after pregnancy. When you are pregnant the high levels of progesterone in your body slow a lot of processes. When you are no longer pregnant things return to normal and you make up for nine months of no loss. I usually take Women's One a Day, but I too lost a lot of hair after each pregnancy.
