We're headed to Dallas with two under 5 in August for a family wedding. There are some wedding-specific events we will be attending, but we are arriving a little early and staying a little late. We've been in January, but I know Dallas in August is hotter than Hades, even worse than our Virginia weather ;) ....

So, what are your must see / do items for August in Dallas? We've been to the Perot, but plan to go again. Zoo, aquarium at fair park? Help me out. Thanks!

What can I do next?

I don't think the weather is that bad but, I have been here since 1989 and I hate cold weather so the heat does not bother me. I am sure it would bother some people but I don't think we have the humidity that you do in VA.

Where is the wedding venue and what area of town will you be staying? DFW is so widespread.

As for August, I don't know specific things to do because we do things all the time. You can google and check if there are any special events at anything I might suggest.

Zoo, Dallas Aquarium (West End area), Arboretum, Clyde Warren Park downtown Dallas, Ft. Worth Zoo, Ft. Worth Stockyards, Mesquite Rodeo, Northpark Mall (best shopping), ice skating at the Galleria, Reunion Tower, Rangers or Frisco Roughriders baseball game, Gaylord Texan is fun to go through and would be in air conditioning as well.

We have excellent high quality restaurants if you want any info on restaurants.

I hope you have a great trip!! Feel free to PM if you want any details on something.

TF Plano hit just about everything. I've lived right in the middle of DFW my whole life, and prefer Ft. Worth to Dallas, so if you haven't ventured that way I would encourage you to. The FW Zoo is really fantastic and has a ton of shade, so the heat isn't quite as bad. If you do make it to FW, Joe T. Garcia's is a local restaurant with beautiful gardens. People eat outside all summer long despite the heat; it's so gorgeous. The FW Stockyards are a fun landmark worth seeing, too. It's a blast from the past with lots of local culture - stores, bars, restaurants, and so much more that's difficult to describe. Have fun at the wedding!

I lived 20 miles north of Dallas for 4 years, it's not that much hotter in Texas than in VA and there isn't as much humidity. The nights stay warmer, but during the day, I never noticed that much of a difference in temperature.

I never took my daughter to anything in Dallas except the zoo, so I can't give you many recommendation. we always did enough little stuff around our town, so I never drove to Dallas. Also, I left 3 years ago, and I know they were constantly building new stuff.

I just wanted to let you know about the weather.

We don't go to Dallas without going to Six Flags. I know it's a full day activity but it's worth it. I love it better than anywhere else because I have so many fond memories of the place.

The Sea life aquarium in the grapevine mills mall is geared towards kids. It is indoors. Next to the aquarium is Legoland. We have great splash parks throughout the metroplex.

The Dallas Zoo is great for little kids, they open early, have spray fans, a tram ride, pony rides, carousel, feed the giraffe and a water play area.
