Vision Test for Kids...

Hi. Unless you think your child has a vision problem, go to Wal-Mart or Costco for a vision testby an optomitrist...$15. I went to an eye doctor, was not informed that they only submit medical claims not vision claims -- a screening is not considered a medical claim and may not be covered by your insurance if not submitted as a vision claim-- and was charged $395 for the screening. The only thing that the Wal-Marts, Costco type place do not do is dialate the eyes and check vision that way. My son's exam was very thorough but I felt cheated when I received a bill and no coverage by insurance. If you decide to go to an opthemologist, just double check how the office submits claims and what your insurance covers. This office (Dr. Colis in Glenview) knows that insurance does not cover a screening as a medical claim, asked for my insurance card, made copies, and still would not submit it as a vision claim - they told me to do it. I was reimbursed $40 copay for specialist. Scam. Good Luck!

I really like Professional Eye Care Center at Touhy and Caldwell. They are very thorough and efficient. Of course, check with your insurance regarding coverage.

We went to Pearl Vision at 400 W Division and saw Dr. Mila Petkovic. It was $60 without insurance.

Talk with your ped, too. Ours is doing the vision test as part of the physical.

Pearle Vision at Riverfront Plaza, Fullerton between Ashland and Western. Dr. Vidulich is our neighbor, friend and optometrist and a super nice guy who is great with kids.
