Video Monitors

My husband and I fought constantly with my first son because I couldn't resist the urge to check on him at night and would sometimes wake him up, so our comprimise this time is a video baby monitor. I have read some reviews online, but wanted your opinion as well. Which ones worked for you?

What can I do next?

The best by far in my opinion, is the Summer brand video monitor. It costs about $100 I think and is mobile so you can move it around instead of installing it over the crib. I am a postpartum doula and have used many over the years. This one is my favorite. S. F.

Yes, the Summer Infant video monitor is by far the best one on the market. Most other brands require that the monitoring unit be plugged in to view the baby, but Summer Infant's monitor is wireless and works well even when outside doing yard work. I highly recommend it!

Hi B.,

Looks like everyone has the same advice! I also have the Summer Infant handheld monitor. We also bought ours on eBay and bought the extra camera so we could put a camera in each boys' room. It has been such a blessing because, with my first son, I would do the same thing with the sound monitor - hear something then go into his room and accidently wake him up. The video gives me such piece of mind and it's also really fun to watch his 'nighttime routine" of falling asleep! Well worth the extra money!!!

I have one made by summer infant and its great. Mine came with 2 cameras and one hand held unit that you can switch back and forth from camera to camera and I love it! It is super clear color picture when it is daytime and super clear regular images when its night time. I absolutely love it! It has a bigger screen on the hand held than most of them out there and its cheapest to get it on ebay, I think it goes for around $229 but if you just want one camera its a lot cheaper. Mine is the silver and blue one.

We got the Summer video monitor. The viewer can either be plugged in or run off of a rechargable battery. It has 2 different settings which was great for us - our neighbor has the same model and sometimes we would see each other's kids on the monitors. If that happens, you just switch to the other channel. It's expensive, but I highly recommend it. You can always sell it off on Craig's List when you are no longer using it.

We bought a regular home security type of camera at Home Depot. We love it! I think whatever you spend on a video camera is worth it. It is so fun to watch the baby.

I have one and the brand is "Summer". I like it and it was only $100 dollars at Babies R Us. I do get static sometimes, but it doesn't bother me. I was always checking on my son too and waking him when the door would open, so it has been great to see him on the screen and know he is sleeping soundly. When your baby is older, the monitor is nice because you can see what he's doing when he is a wake. You will know if you need to go in or just leave him to go back to sleep.
