I'm looking for a great vet/clinic in St.Charles County. We live in O'Fallon but I'm willing to go to St.Peters/Wentzville/St.Charles areas also. We've already tried 2 vets in this area that were recommended by friends and we weren't happy with them-I'm fairly picky, I expect to see educated doctors, not salespeople (VCA.) So I'd appreciate if you could tell me the vet you use and why you like them if you live in this area. I'm also interested in hearing about any vets you haven't liked.
Thank you very much!

So What Happened?

Unfortunately, I made the mistake of not taking anyone's advice and listening to another friend. (It isn't that you had bad suggestions, it was just that I didn't see the same vet practice recommended more than once...)
Anyway, we went to Vet Stop in St.Peters off of Mexico Road and this vet clinic was BY FAR the worst of any we have been to ever-that's quite a feat since I've owned dogs all of my life. Here's the review I wrote:
"have no idea why the people at this place (including the vet-Tammy, and the vet techs) even work with animals, their disdain for my dog was evident from the second we walked in the door. I wish I would have trusted my instincts and left, but we stayed. We had an appointment, but didn't see the vet until almost an hour of waiting. (Again, we should have left.) When we did finally see the vet, she was in and out so fast I had to ask her questions IN THE DOORWAY and she was so busy trying to rush out (they weren't even busy) I only got to ask one of my several questions. She barely even looked at my dog but charged me $30.00+ dollars for an exam. She didn't even notice his umbilical hernia-which every other vet we've been to has noticed and mentioned to us. She didn't glance at his records or ask anything about his medical history either. I was led to believe they gave him the 3 years rabies shot, which is standard in Missouri, but when I looked at the paperwork they gave him a one year. They didn't ask which we wanted or anything. I will be making a formal complaint with the licensing board and the BBB, I'm so disgusted with the "service" we received here. You can't do worse than this vet clinic!"

Anyway, thanks again for your suggestions. We'll be trying another new vet in the future.

I've taken all our pets to Banfield which is inside Petsmart in St. Charles, by Wal-Mart. They've taken care of our gerbils, guinnea pigs, turtle and dog. I was very impressed with the way they handled the turtle we rescued (had been abused - found with broken shell). They did the low cost options first, and taught us how to give the turtle injections for his infection. When the turtle got worse and they though he would need a prosthetic shell, which we could not afford, one of the nurses offered to adopt him, so we signed Tuffy over to her. We can check on Tuffy anytime we bring our pets in, and this nurse even let my daughter borrow Tuffy back for a day to bring him to show & tell at school. So, they are all very nice and loving toward all animals. The only down side to Banfield is they are almost too cautious with a pet's health and I think they go a little overboard with treatment. But, they do give options and an estimate, so you can decide. They also call after a visit just to see if your pet is ok. They also have a resident tortoise shell cat there who is just beautiful and she checks on the patients, supervises the staff and monitors the computer. We always look forward to seeing her there.

Cloud Veterinary Clinic in O'Fallon on Highway K. They are wonderful and I have had no complaints. We don't have to wait long when we take our dog in, and they are always friendly and they listen to us. I have had to call them several times for various things and I trust them completely.

Hi A.-
I have 2 cats, and I totally understand about being picky. Our previous cat was horrible with the vet, so we had to find one that could deal with her without advising we drug her every time! We currently go to what used to be Animal Docs (now maybe The Pet Doctor? we haven't gone since last July thank goodnes) in Winghaven in the shopping center with Outback. They are pretty good, certainly better than VCA. We tried them a couple times but couldn't deal with the always 30-45 min or so wait (cats aren't very patient). My favorite though is Ellisville Veterinary Hospital off Clarkson. We went there with our last cat, the really bad patient, and they were wonderful. I wished I remembered the doctor's name, but there was a lady there who was fantastic, would call us back all the time if we had problems and was very very patient and empathetic with us. Best of luck in your search!

Dr. King at 1st Capital Animal Hospital is awesome!! I've been taking my pets to him for 20 years. They were very helpful when we had to put one of our dogs down and they even sent us cards supressing their sympathy. Very caring people work there and I would never go anywhere else.

I'm so sorry to hear about your experience. I just adopted a dog & have been watching the responses to your post in hopes of some raved reviews about a vet. I asked around at work & a few of them take their dogs to McCauley Animal Clinic (1037 Wolfurm Rd, Weldon Springs, MO 63304 ###-###-####) & they RAVE about it. We saw Dr. Mike Hoffman last Thur & I will have to continue their raving. They were:
Prompt - appt before us cancelled so we were seen early
Patient & informative - we asked tons of questions that I'm very comfortable with the answers I received. We were there a bit over an hour & never felt rushed.
They were also friendly, clean, & caring. The first office visit is free, so we only paid $55 for a 3 year rabies shot & tag. (Max isn't neutered, so I think it was a little more because of that.) I was not pressured into buying anything either. I was obviously VERY impressed with them. Hope this helps. Keep us posted if you try anyone else.
