Odd that I'm posting on a mom's board for a vet but I would like to know if anyone has any referrals for a good vet in the Lake Forest or South County area. My cat is a cherished pet, she's 15 now and likely has renal failure. I'd like to get her to a vet for testing and prognosis. I would like to be able to do what I can to help her get more time with us if at all possible. Thank you so much.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I took my kitty to a vet this morning and got her some sub-Q fluids and a blood panel. I will know how good/bad it is when the labs come in tomorrow. I appreciate everyone's referrals and suggestions. I realize that this is a terminal illness and will carefully consider prolonging life and/or suffering. We've already started prepping my daughter for the inevitability of my cat being gone, so hopefully we'll be able to transition from a 2 cat to a 1 cat household in the most cruelty-free way. Thank you again everyone!!!

M.,
I am so very sorry ot hear about your kitty. We take our 3 kittes and dog to Alisos Animal Hospital. Dr. David Bahou is the owner and the only vet there, so his service is so personal. He saved our dogs life, and has done incredible surgery on my sister's kitty. (My mom and sister take their kitties to him too).

We have a kitten and live in Lake Forest. We've been taking her to the Animal Clinic off of Ridge Route and Muirlands (across from the Montessori on the Lake), for her shots and check-ups. They're a sweet, attentive staff. I hope for nothing but the best for you and your family.

We've been with this vet for six years now. I personally like Dr. Simon and Dr. Asha. They are a little far from Lake Forest but worth checking out.
P.S. We have a dog but I see lots of cats come and go from there. You might ask if one of the vets specializes in cat care.

I am so sorry to hear about your cat. My love of 14 years also went into renal failure. It is common in older cats. I read on websites, went to vets, and gave her subcutanious fluids on my own. I did everything that I could, and spent whatever I had to, in order to keep her going. And she would bounce back for a day or two and look like all was better, but, in the end, the only thing I was doing was soothing myself and disregarding her needs. Be so careful. Giving treatments and going to vets can just prolong the illness. Due to fear and sadness, I was blind to my selfishness. After you get the diagnois and prognosis make your decision very carefully with your cat in mind not yourself or a child. Best wishes.

I know Newport Beach is not exactly South County, but we had a wonderful vet who helped us deal with our cat that had renal failure that I would highly recommend. She was wonderfuly kind, and has cats of her own with renal problems. Her name is Dr. Cindy Wade, and she works for Newport Harbor Animal Hospital. Their website is www.newportharborvets.com. They are located right off of the 55 freeway. The phone number is: ###-###-####.

I wish you the best of luck!
