A child I babysit had a cold a week 1/2 ago, and red, weepy eyes. Now he is left with a cough, runny nose, and redness that comes and goes around his mouth and eyes (like a sunburn). the redness lasts for like 10-15 minutes his mom said. I haven't seen it, she told me about it. Has anyone ever seen this weird symptom?

My middle daughter has bad allergies...they are bad enough that sometimes they seem more like a cold. When the symptoms are severe enough, she gets allergic conjunctivitis...and form of pink eye. I took her to an allergist and with the proper medication, she rarely has to deal with pink eye anymore and her allergy symptoms are much, much better. The doctor gave me eye drops that I keep on hand. As soon as her eye or eyes start to itch and look at all pink, I put one drop in each eye and that takes care of it before it gets to be full blown pink eye.

Sounds exactly like Fifths Disease - http://www.kidshealth.org/parent/infections/bacterial_vir...

When my oldest son had it, the rash was only on his arms, but it came and went for a few weeks after the "cold" of the illness was over.

Possibly impetigo? My daughter has this happen too. A few times I knew for a fact it was impetigo and the dr. gave us a cream that clears it right up. I use it whenever she gets it. The closest thing we have been able to come up with for a cause was dehydration and the stuff she puts in her mouth or what she puts on her hands and into her mouth. The weepy eyes would concern me too, since it could be pinkeye. Another thing to look at might be allergies. We try to take her off milk when this happens too.

Sounds like pink eye, WHICH IS SUPER CONTAGIOUS, that or hand foot and mouth if the bumps turn crusty! Either way I would not watch him until his mom takes him to the Dr.
