Are there any OBs that are supportive of VBAC that also practice at North Memorial hospital in Robbinsdale? We live minutes from that hospital, have had good experiences there, and, seeing as how i could be pregnant right now, I want to know if I'll be able to attempt a VBAC delivery there.

TIA.

So What Happened?

Thanks for the advice everyone! I'd love to have a doula and/or midwife, but our insurance wouldn't cover it, and we can't afford it out of pocket :( BUT, I looked into the Oakdale Clinic, and it's covered! Also, Dr. Baker, Dr. Gosen, and Dr. Cyernicki are in network as well! Thanks so much for all your help!

I use Oakdale Ob/Gyn and they see patients at the Oakdale building in Robbinsdale next to the hospital. They also deliver at North memorial. The website is www.oadaleobgyn.com.

I have to agree with Myndi - I also go to Oakdale OB-Gyn - their office next to North Memorial would be super convenient for you and all of the Docs are great. I just had my first baby in December - and it was the best experience ever. I have heard horror stories from friends at different OBs and Hospitals. Good luck with your decision and your pregnancy!

I used Oakdale Ob-Gyn for our twin birth which was what they call a double whammy - first twin born vaginally, second twin taken by emergency C-section because she got stuck and her heart-rate dropped. I loved the docs at the practice so much that I stayed with them for the birth of our fourth this past Feb., a successful, uncomplicated VBAC at North Memorial. It was a great experience and we enjoyed the hospital both times. My primary doc was Daniel Leafblad who has been named in one of the local magazines as one of MSP's top docs in recent years. He's VERY personable, friendly, helpful, knowledgeable. I saw 3-4 other doctors throughout both pregnancies and liked them all. They have an office at N. Memorial as well as others in the northwest metro. Hope that's helpful!

Just wanted to add some information. I am seeking a VBAC in Jan 2009, and my insurance covers North Memorial doctors and Fairview doctors in full. I considered Katerine at North Metro Midwives and had a lot of contact with her, but there is a downside to her. First she does sound awesome, and she was so great to talk with over the phone - I know that if I went to her, I would feel the safety and security I need to get through the pregnancy, however - she herself cannot do VBACs. I'm not sure the exact reason - she explained - something about politics, but she is working to get that privelege but has no idea how long it will take. You can see her for prenatal care, but you would have to transfer to the OBs at the North Clinic for labor and delivery. That being said, she had so many positive things to say about the physicians there and it really sounds like she has a great relationship with them. She has had 4 VBAC moms see her for pregnancy and then transfer to the OBs at birth and they all had successful VBACs - so a 100% success rate, but a small sample. If you don't like that, you could consider going to the OBs at North Clinic too. You could call Katherine too and ask for VBAC advice - she took the time to talk with me about my options - where else I could go, etc. I have decided to see the midwives and U of M Professionals and will deliver at Fairview Riverside. I really want midwifery care throughout pregnancy and L & D. I hope this helps!!

Obgyn and Infertility is the office I use. They are also in the Oakdale building, but I usually drive over to the West health location which is not that far and you do not have to pay for parking. I would recommend seeing Dr Cyernicki or Dr Gosen. Or if you want to see one of the women physicians L. Baker is good, but hard to get into. And Jennifer Arnhold is who my sister sees. I used to work at North Memorial and have heard great things about so many of the OB's, and with the NICU right there and the hospital being a level 1 trauma center, I don't know why anyone would deliver anywhere else. We also live in North Minneapolis, 49th and Upton. My kids are older though, 10, 4, and 3. But my four year old I am sure would love a new friend to play with!

Have you thought of using a midwife? The CNM I go to is VERY supportive of VBACS and delivers at North Memorial. her name is Katherine and here is her contact info
northmetromidwives.com
I would highly recommend her as a practitioner and midwife.
