I want my hubby to have a vasectomy and have asked his PCP for a referral but they do not speak fluent English so I know my husband will not feel comfortable. Any recomendations? We are in the Macomb area. Also, how bad is it? Down time...
Thanks!

Dr. Lutz, he's in that office building over by Beaumont Troy that is right next to M-59 (and south blvd). Both my husband and brother in law went there. My husband had no pain, unlike one of our friends. Very highly recommended. he's been written up in hour magazine, and newspapers.

My husband chickened out the day before he was supposed to have the procedure. Needless to say, I got my tubes clamped. My ex, however, had the procedure after our second son was born and it was no big deal. Off work for about 2 days, and used ice for the first day. No problems. I just don't remember who we went to for it since it was so long ago, but I think he had it done at South Macomb, now it is owned by St. John on 12 and Hoover. It's an easy procedure.

I don't know about vasectomy's, but I hear it's very simple. I just wanted to tell you my story. I was going to have my husband do that and then decided to have myself get "fixed" lol. It is an outpatient surgery and I literally was able to stand and walk right after I woke up from surgery (never even needed the pain medication). My thinking was...you never know what will happen in the future (divorce, horrible accidents, etc...don't mean to sound so negative, but again...no one can predict the future) and I will never have to worry about birth control or pregnancy again.

Hi - We made this decision twenty years ago after praying about it for a couple years. I think my husband would say it was a simpler procedure than imagined. He had it on a Friday so he could have the weekend to recoup, but don't recall that there was much to that. He even drove himself to and from the procedure! The doctor met with both of us to make sure we were both on board with this before he had it done. He went to Dr. Roger Bigelow who was in Macomb County; he is a General Surgeon. It was a good decision for us.

My husband had it done a year ago but I can't remember who the doctor was. The down time was minimal, he went back to work the next day. What makes it easier is to wear a jock strap for a few weeks until the bruising goes away. Also using the bag of peas as an ice pack the first few days.

K.,

My husband had this procedure last December on a Friday and he returned to work on Monday. The actual procedure took around 45 minutes and my husband was awake during the whole thing. He had to take it easy for the first few days to keep down any swelling and experienced a little discomfort at the incision areas for a few weeks after but nothing terrible. For him, I think the worst part was the prep work before the actual procedure (shaving).

Then you use other protection for a minimum of three months before submitting a sample for testing. In about a week you'll find out if you have the all clear to discontinue the "other" protection. We received the all clear without any trouble. But, be aware if they find any swimmers the procedure will need to be repeated.

I personally didn't want to be the one to have my tubes tied as I've spoken to too many women who have experienced problems with their period after the procedure. After all, you were the one to give birth so let them do their part. My husband found it a very "freeing" solution.

Good luck!
