Does anyone out there using the valco tri mode single with a toddler seat? I am wondering if I could get away with using that instead of a traditional double stroller. In Nov I will have a newborn and a 20 month old.

I have considered the Phil and Ted's but I'm not crazy about how low to the ground it is.

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I wondered if the single valco with the toddler seat would be tippy and it sounds like it is.

I had the single valco for my first child and had bought it thinking I would later use the toddler seat when I have a second but decided against it. I had heard from others who had it that the stroller tips over rather easily with the older child in the toddler seat. I bought the valco double and love it. My only complaint is that it is a little wide but they all are (side-by-side doubles). The MOUNTAIN BUGGY might also work for you...I really wanted to get this one but my oldest was too tall for it. Good luck!

PS: I feel like the P+T is not as good a quality stroller and I also didn't like how low the baby would be...

I have it and LOVE it. Having said this, I did purchase a double stroller - the Kolcraft Contours one and LOVE that too. I now have a 3 1/2 year old and a 13 month old. My 3 1/2 year old still tends to fall asleep in the stroller so when I know that may happen, I take the Kolcraft Contours stroller but if I am out for a jog then I put them both in the Valco and it works great. I did a lot of research about the Phil and Ted's and did not like it. I have a few friends that have it too and do not like that stroller. Hope this helps!

I personally do not have the Valco, but just ordered the Adventure Buggy from GoBubbaGo.com. It has the option for a toddler seat in the front, but also has an option for a reclining toddler seat on the top of the stroller, which I really like. The reclining toddler seat allows for the child to recline and looks much more comfortable than the actual toddler seat, where they have to sit up the entire time. This seat can be used either for your 20 month old or your newborn. I have been searching endlessly for a stroller that will work for me. I have 6 month old triplets and wanted to find something that wasn't inline and could still get around in stores. This seemed to meet all of my needs, and I am very much looking forward to it coming in the mail. Good luck!

I own a Stroller Fitness business and have the Single Tri-Mode with the toddler seat and I have NEVER had a problem with tipping. My almost-three-year-old even gets in and out of it herself. I don't run long distances with it, but in class we do run and it's fine. There are probably 15 other moms in our programs that have the stroller (it's the most popular stroller we have) and they all love it. The moms who have side-by-side joggers with different aged children seem to have a more difficult time because the strollers pull to one side with the weight difference. The only time I've had any difficulty maneuvering the stroller is if I don't have the tires inflated to the right PSI (which I've found most people don't). Other than that, I can turn it with one hand.
I had the Phil & Ted's and it was garbage. We've had women who purchased newer versions than I had and two actually had wheels fall off for no reason. There are several women who have the City Jogger and City Jogger Mini and like them. The only problem that some have is that when the older child has started parents day out or preschool, they have to use a different stroller or walk around with a double with one child in it. I love that if I just have one child with me, I can pop off the extra seat and have a single.
Good luck!

I have the Valco single stroller with the toddler seat. I had similar thoughts about trying to use it in place of a double stroller. WRONG! While it worked in a pinch. The toddler seat with your toddler in it throws off the balance of the stroller and makes it very heavy towards the front. This also makes it much harder to manipulate for turning. I loved my Valco for its easy turning with one hand, and it is totally lost using the toddler seat. I recommend the baby jogger city mini double stroller. I love it!! It's side by side but fits through all standard doorways and it easier to push with one hand when you need to.

I have the single stroller with the toddler seat and it has almost tipped over too many times for me to ever recommend this to anyone! I loved it and still do as a single stroller. It does not handle well for a double. My kids are about 5 lbs different in weight so it is not as though all the weight is in the front. My little one is also long so he does not like having to stick his feet under the toddler seat. It is hard to manuver getting in and out of stores and hard to get up curbs.
I am sure it handles better with the double stroller and toddler seat because the double stroller has two wheels in the front vs the one wheel in the single stroller.
Oh, and my kids are only 11mos and just turned 3. My three year old is very small only 26.5 lbs so in mind no reason for tipping over! Again, I do not recommend this stroller at all!

I have the double valco with the toddler seat and couldn't love it anymore, but my friend got the single and used it daily for city living and it was a nightmare for her going over curbs, the weight distribution with the bigger one on top was a major problem for her, it actually fell over a couple times. Now that being said, her older one was three, not 20 months, and if you aren't using it as a "second car" for everything in the city, it's conceptually great!

I have the Valco Twin Tri Mode with the toddler seat for my three kids (agres 4,2,1). I love this stroller and would totally recommend it. The stroller handles very well and is easy to manuever through stores or where ever. Keep in mind I have the one that is side by side and the toddler seat goes on top. The toddler seat is nice because my older ones are always wanting to jump out and see what's going on. They also like that it's higher up than the rest of the stroller and they get a good view. They also like the "big kid" aspect of the toddler seat. The only downfalls are that the stroller is heavy (especially the double) and if you don't have a minivan or big SUV I don't think you'll be able to transport it. I'm sure the single isn't going be be nearly as bad.

I tried the Phil and Ted stroller and it was difficult to turn corners and difficult to fold, so I wasn't a big fan.

Hope this helps!
