PROBIOTICS!! She needs them badly! You might need some cream like GYne lotrimin or Monistat to the area.

D., please call the nurse at your doctor's office and ask her to talk to you about your baby's diagnosis. You really need to be able to understand what is going on with her. If you don't, you can't do what is necessary to keep this from happening again. Vaginitis seems to be a really unusual thing to happen to a 6 month old, unless it is caused by pin worms. (Pin worms are kind of like lice except not in the hair - they strike any and everywhere.)

By the way, drying her skin out is something you can do something about with lotion - getting her vagina healthy again is more important for you to worry about.

Look at the following website, and then find out more about what you can do to better help your daughter.

Best of luck,

Baking soda baths are perfectly safe. Very good for soothing a red irritated vaginal area. I've used baking soda baths for my daughters when their bottom/vaginal areas are red and irritated. It really helps!

My daughter had that when she was just a few weeks old. Baking soda bath sounds just fine to me. It's natural, so it shouldn't bother her. My doctor wanted to prescribe a cream that you put on a couple times a day. But it got better on it's own, without using the prescription. Basically, it's just her tissue is inflamed down there because it's irritated. Try switching baby wipes and paying extra attention when cleaning her. Maybe try changing her diaper a little more often to keep her more dry until it clears up. I hear it's fairly common and not to worry about it too much. Good luck!

Apparently, your pediatrician has diagnosed irritation on/in the vagina. From who knows what. If she has had diarrhea, that is probably the cause. The baking soda baths will soothe any discomfort it may be causing her. I really don't think your pediatrician would advise it if it wasn't safe.

My mom said that when they "got" me (I was adopted at 2) I had a severe vaginal infection just from not being clean enough. They bathed me in a bath with a few teaspons of vinegar. Sounds awful but I guess that's what's in a douche. If your ped suggested baking soda, then maybe that works well too. They also were given a cream by the doctor to put on me.

Hey, I have a 7 year old daughter and she has had problems with her little girl parts for almost 2 years now. She produces alot of yeast and she burns and itches all the time and her little privates are always red looking, the Dr. put her on Diflucan twice and that has not helped so we went back to the Dr. and they did a vaginal swab and sent that to lab, but it came back negative for anything abnormal, now we are going to see a Dermatologist because she is still burning and itching in her female parts. I have not heard about the baking soda so i'm not sure how that would work, I am washing her clothes in Dreft again to see if that will make a difference. Let me know what you find about your baby.
