Hi Ladies,
My vacuum has just about had it and I need a new one! Do any of you have any suggestions? I'm kind of overwhelmed looking at the store-you can barely look at them, and I have no idea which to chose!! I have 4 furry pets, so fur is a big issue, and I have a mix of hardwood floors/rugs/carpet.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

I have an Orek and I love it. It is the best vacuum that I have ever had. It cleans everything and my carpet has never looked so good. I also have a cat and dog that both shed quite a bit in the spring and fall and have not had a problem with the Orek.

Hi A.,
I have a Hoover Widepath Tempo. Originally, I went from a Kirby($1500.00)vacuum after 10 years and the motor died; so I felt completely lost. I did a ton of research on vacuums and determined to get this one because of the power of the suction and the cost was around $60 with a year warranty so if anything goes wrong, I just go out and buy a new one without a huge loss and it has worked well. It will work on all types of floors, but is too powerful in my opinion for rugs. I don't have any pets but I am sure it would do the job well. I have had it for about a year now and still standing strong. Good luck. :)

I would recomend the dyson. It's a bit more expensive than other vacuums, but works great. They have one especially for pets.

It is expensive - but well worth it - especially with animals - the Dyson Animal. You will cringe when you buy it since it is expensive - but you will never regret it! Promise!!

Hello,

I have the Kenmore Progressive Upright Vacuum with Inteli-Clean System. It is buy far the best that I have had. It has a light that tells you when your carpet is clean. Based off the amount of dirt the vacuum reduces or increases the amount of suction it needs. Also the attachments are great. The handle on the hose can extend for so far up,for example a flight of stairs, its amazing. I use it on carpet, hardwood and vinyl floors. There's a flat head attachment for the floors or just set the level on the vacuum to bare floor. I also have a dog and I am amazed to see how much dog hair it picks up. when I first got the vacuum I used my old one first and then the new one, just to see how well it does. Again I was amazed how well it worked. So well that it pick up my carpet fuzz, as in the grains of the carpet. Thats how well it cleans. I would suggest it's a great deal. Actually I think it won awards for being best vacuum a few years ago. Get the warranty Sears offers and you can bring in the vacuum once a year for a cleaning and check up for free. When I bought the vacumm and warrenty it cost around $280, but it's well worth the money. Good luck in your vacuum hunting.

I have an Oreck XL and I love it. It is built to last and really does a good job. It is a little pricey, but when my mom bought one about a year ago she got some free things with it and one of them was an Oreck kitchen electric hand mixer, she loves it! I would recommend one.

Hi there
My vacuum was real pricey but so worth it. I have a Dyson and love it. I have hardwood floors, tiles and rugs/carpets and it works great on all of them and is good with the pet hairs. I've had it for about 18 months and it still works the same as it did the day I bought it.

We have the purple Dyson which I believe is called the "Animal". As the name would suggest it is especially useful for home with animals. We have two dogs and have had this vacuum for over 4 years now. I really do love it. I was mad at first when my husband bought it because they are pricey, but totally worth it.
Go for the Dyson!

I would definitely go with a bagged vacuum with all the fur you have in your house.

I love my Kirby. They are around $1400, but they are so worth it. I have had mine for 10 years now and it still amazes me. I use the hardwood floor attachment to vacuum my tile and hardwood floors. The other attachments I use for corners, trim, ceiling fans, and more. It also has a shampoo system and I shampoo all my carpets twice a year. It cleans remarkably well. I have only had to replace the belt once for $8. The engine is built to last a lifetime. Well worth the money when you consider the cost of your carpeting and upholstery. Oh, my friend has one too, and she owns 2 dogs and 3 cats, and she said it doesn't compare to other vacuums. She couldn't live without it.

Hi,
My 2 & 5 year old boys broke my 6 mo. old $265 Hoover I bought from Costco...I just bought a Riccar from Mill Valley Vacuum in Milford. It's the kind cleaning companies use. I have 5 kids, a dog and a cat. Wood and tile downstairs and carpet upstairs. I love my new vacuum. I'm so pleased with it and they are supposed to last like 15-20 years. He also has reconditioned ones there. I'm not sure of the number but it's on Milford Rd north of Commerce.

Another Dyson lover here. I have a shedding machine German Shepherd and it sucks it all up so well! We have fake wood floors and I can see little hairballs flying towards the vacuum. I bought it refurbished on overstock and I could not tell it was refurbished at all. Ive also found them clearanced at Target and there is usually an offer for a giftcard with purchase. Definately check them out. I couldnt believe how much stuff came out of my carpets after I went over them with the Dyson for the first time. Its unreal. I thought they were clean! The refurbished does have a smaller warranty but you can purchase an additional 2 yrs. The new ones at the store come with a 5 yr warranty now.

Well whichever brand and model you decide on, YOU decide because chances are it'll be YOU using it and you should get something that YOU feel does the job well enough. Had I had a say in the matter, I would've opted for a Dyson. Instead, TA-DAHHHH, hubby brings home an Oreck. I still don't like it, nor do I use it but that's more from physical disabilities than abhorrance to housecleaning.

I LOVE my Dyson, and half the girls I work with have one too! Get the purple one, for pets...there are different models (I think I have a DC14). At Bed, Bath & Beyond you can use those 20% off coupons that you get all the time and save about $100. I've had many vacuums over the years and this is by far the best one. The furniture attachment actually has a roller in it to get that fur!

I have the Dyson all floors and I love it. It has so much sucking power. I like that with the push of a button the canister comes off another button dumps it and you are good to go again. I can't believe after one vacuuming what that vacuum pulls out of the carpet. My sister in law bought one too and she loves how it works on her dark green carpet.
I bought mine at Kohl's, they have great sales and I had a coupon which helped alot.

Dear A. M.,

I have a very close friend who has a Dyson for animals and if I could afford $500 ($400 if on a good sale) I would buy one. She says that the commercials we see on t.v. are absolutely correct about them being powerful with the suction and easy to maneuver around. I don't have that kind of money to spend on one or I would have one also. She has a German shepherd and several cats and they all shed terribly and it picks it all up well.

Another vote for the purple Dyson (geared towards pets). I have had the DC07 for about 2 years and LOVE it! Suction is great. No vaccuum bags to worry about. We have two dogs so the holes at the top of the canister (I belive they are for suction) tend to plug up. Which goes to show how they plug up on traditional vaccuums. Difference is, with this vaccuum we can clean it out. My husband uses the air compressor and blows them out every other month or so.

Great vaccuum and well worth the money.

We just purchased a new vacuum. We did a lot of research because we have a daughter with asthma. We decided to buy the #1 Consumer Reports Rated vacuum and did go back to a back to prevent the dust and stuff getting back into the air.

It is the Kenmore Progressive Upright Vacuum with Inteli-Clean System from Sears. It is rated #1 and you can try it out in the store. It is great for pet hair too!

The cost was $250.

Hope this helps - btw....WE LOVE IT!!! Does a great job and even tells you when your carpet is fully clean.

Hi, I know I am late jumping in on this but I just had to. I owned a House Cleaning Business for several years, so you name it, I've tried it. After the first year I began purchasing Panasonic upright Vaccums. As my business grew I continued to buy more. They are wonderful. They have great suction, low maintainence and cost around three hundred and fifty. They last for YEARS.
Mine got a lot of wear and tear on a daily basis and I still had several left when I sold the business! I've heard that Dyson's are good but they are pricey and to be honest I have never actually KNOWN someone who has had one.
Happy Shopping!

dyson, dyson, dyson. It is worth the money that you pay for it. I got one a year ago and have the same type of home with hardwood, carpet, tile and rugs. It can be used on bare floor and won't scrath the wood or tile. They make one especially for animals. I think it's the purple version called "amimal". It is definately worth the money.... good luck.

A., I absolutely love my Kenmore canister vac...easy to take up stairs and lots of power. For everyone out ther and A., using a Dyson voids all warranties on your carpet...it is too powerful and pulls the fibers from the backing. Just a FYI. I own a small carpet company and let everyone know not to use a Dyson if they want to keep their warranty intact.
