Vacuum Cleaners - Sour Lake,TX

Hello Mamas! I've scoured Mamapedia for information regarding a vacuum cleaner and I can't find one that accurately answers these questions. Yes, I want it all, moderately priced, picks up dog hair, even possibly deep cleans area rugs (is that possible)?? There seem to be some that do all of this but the price is well over $500. Has anyone had any luck with anything around $200?? I appreciate any/all input. Thanks Ladies!!

What can I do next?

We have a Kenmore Progressive. We don't have a dog, but after we've vacuumed, the carpet feels noticeably cleaner.

I have always sworn by and loved Hoovers. After Hurricane Ike, in which I lost my year old one, we built our house back with only hard surface floors, therefore I don't need a full size vacuum.

If I were to buy a new one today, I would get a Dyson. Watch the sales and you don't have to get the faniest model. Target has them on sale a lot and puts a gift card in with the deal. Of course you can only use the gc at Target, but surely there are other things you need from Target. I believe they are truly worth the money you pay for them.

I went from store to store trying vacuums before I bought mine. I wasn't going to buy one without trying it first, and trying it on different types of carpet. I finally bought an Oreck. They have different levels of them, and I bought about the second level. The differences are mainly in things like that the highest level will flatten clear down to go under something.

Anyway, it comes with a lifetime warranty, and includes yearly maintainence. I've been very happy with it. It does a much better job than any other vacuum I've ever had. The big disadvantage to it is that it doesn't have attachments on it. To make up for that, they gave me a hand held (I don't know exactly what to call it) cannister type vacuum for the furniture/drapes jobs.

I can't imagine ever wanting another vacuum.

We had a Hoover Windtunnel that did a good job on dog hair and everything before we upgraded to a Dyson. It worked well for at least 8 years. I dont know about the deep cleaning, but it did well on everyday cleaning up after 2 adults, 1 dog, and 1 baby.

I have the Dyson Animal upright (which is one of those $500 ones) but they do make a large handheld version of the Animal that looks to be about $250. I only personally know about the upright one but I can say that I love it and it really does get the dirt, dander, and hair that is embedded deep in the carpet. It was a large expense so I waited until I had a 20% coupon at Bed Bath and Beyond to buy mine. Best of luck in your search!

Love my Dyson!! You can get them factory refurbished for cheaper but you'll only get a 6 month warranty on it verses a 5 yr warranty if you buy a new one. I had a Kenmore canister before and didn't realize the poor job it was doing till I got my Dyson.............

You get what you pay for. Dyson is worth it.

I agree that you get what you pay for. We had a less expensive vacuum and it didn't last. We bought our Dyson upright (for pet hair) and have had it several years. It works great and really was worth the money. If possible I would suggest to save up for the better quality vacuum rather than buy a less expensive brand you will have to replace in a few years.

Good luck!
