Vacuum Cleaner Suggestions
I'm looking to buy a new vacuum cleaner. I need something that works really well sucking up pet hair....we have a big, furry golden. In the past I've found that the vacuum gets clogged quickly even though I'm routinly emptying it out. I prefer the bagless models also. I always see comercials on the Dyson Brand, but I don't know anyone that owns one to say if they are worth it. Thanks!
So What Happened?™
THANK YOU for all the insight.....I swear I received better ratings than reading Consumer Resports! Looks like I have 3 brands to compare and I'll make my decision after that! I totally appreciate all the help! :)

Kirbys work great, they're expensive, but they work really well, and plus, they also double as a shampooer. Seriously.

As a pet owner, I swear by DYSON. Here's how I got my pretty cheap. I found one on sale at Kohls or Target (can't remember) but then took sale ad to Bed Bath and Beyond they matched sale price then also took the 20% coupons you get in the mail. I think I paid less than $300 with tax and everything.
P.S. I also had a monster Kirby and it didn't pick up half as much and spent too much money on bags.

Hi~
I don't have a Dyson (yet) but I plan on buying one. I do have a tip for pet hair, though. If you spray your furniture with anti-static spray before you vacuum it, the pet hair releases really easy instead of just getting pushed around by the vacuum brush. Plus then your couch smells fresh.

Hi K.,
My sister works at a dog groomers and she says they swear by the Dyson. If your husband will "let" you spend the money, get one! My husband wouldn't let me spend that kind of money on a vacuum, so I bought a Eureka - a Consumer Reports Best Buy (we also swear by Consumer Reports). It's not bagless, but I love it. I have two cats - no dogs - and I have been very pleased with it.

I have the pet Dyson, it's awesome. We have 3 dogs, one is a German Shepherd. He's just a baby but he sheds bad. I use it on all my floors, especially the tile too. I love my vacuum very much. Even though it is expensive, it's worth it all the way.

We have 3 dogs, 4 kids and 2 vacuums LOL, we own a Dyson and a Kirby and out of the 2 I usually always use the Kirby, it picks up everything and I mean everything. Not to down play the Dyson becuase we do keep that up stairs so I do not have to carry the heavy Kirby up there, but for our main area of the house we always use the Kirby and there is never any fear to let little ones crawl around on the floor.
Best of luck to you !

We just bought a new Vacuum this summer. Also had pet hair issues to deal with. We went to an actual vacuum store to better determine what would be best for our house. It was very helpful to talk to an actual person vs comparing boxes at the store. Not sure where you live, but we went to the vacum store in Grandville off Chicago dr. Very helpful people!

My family has really really bad allergies and animal dander is huge with us and since we don't want to give up our dogs and cat we bought a SEBO ($1000) I know not cheap but it works great!!!
Good Luck...We had a dyson and they are much heavier to push that anything we have had in the past. I also told my girlfriend about the sebo cause they have a Golden, a Lab and a chow mix and she swears by it too.
Good luck

The Dyson is definitely worth the money...my mother has one and it is absolutely amazing. In fact, my dad often vaccums just for fun because he is amazed at the difference it makes...I'm not sure about any other vaccums, but I would reccomend a dyson. I've also heard good things about this brand called Rainbow I think it is...but I've only heard of it being sold by an in home person...i don't know where you could find one through a retailer.

I've had my purple-pet dyson for 3 years and love it. I, too, have a golden, so I have to occassionally take the bottom off to cut off her hair that gets tangled, but it has been worth every penny. I got it at Bed, Bath, & Beyond with a 20% off coupon. It was still expensive, but by far the best vacuum I've ever had.

We have a Dyson & absolutely love it. It picks up the dirt beautifully. We got it for under $500 from Linens n Things & it came w/a free vac. for the kids. We used to own a Rainbow but didn't like it as much. Good luck!

K.,
I have a lab that sheds endlessly and I decided to buy the Dyson and I love it. I have the animal dc-15 model. They are expensive, but worth it in my opinion. I even took ours to my mom's to show her how well it worked on her dog's (a golden/newfoundland mix) hair, and she bought one too. I got it at Bed bath and Beyond and used a 20% off coupon, so I saved over $100 on it.

I can honestly say that the Dyson is worth every penny! We also have a golden who leaves her hair everywhere. The dyson never gets clogged and has worked great for 4 years. It is the longest time I've ever kept a vacuum cleaner! I've also heard that the oreck is worth the price. For our family, it was worth the investment in a more costly product, since we seemed to be buying a new vacuum every year. Good luck!

Spend the money, alright... and get a one month subscription to the online version of consumer reports - consumerreports.org, I think. I did, and found that I could get the number 3 or 4 vacuum on their list, get results similar to those from a Dyson, and save $600.

Hi K.: I'm new to this site and just thought I'd check it out. Ran across your request for info regarding vacuums. My husband and I recently bought a Rainbow and it is absolutely terrific. It was not cheap (about $1000) but, oh my gosh - it is wonderful. They are only sold through home demonstrations. You'll be amazed at what it picks up if you chose to have the Rainbow people come to your house. Need a recommendation? Let me know. L.
