Vacation with 3 Year Old and 9 Month Old

My husband and I are really wanting to go somewhere and we're trying to go to a kid friendly place so we've pretty much decided on going to San diego Zoo and Sea world (San Diego). I'm wondering if anyone can give me any advice for going there and also any great hotels and such. We'll be flying out to San Diego and then spending a few days there, at least three days. I'm really wondering if it will be fun for my kids and if it will be extremely hot for me to worry about being outside for so long with them. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

What can I do next?

It shouldn't be too hot in San Diego. They get cool beach breezes there. It's not hot like LA is!
I grew up in LA and we went to San Diego many times. We usually did day trips, so I don't have any hotel ideas. But there are three places are really huge, and almost need two days each to take it all in. Sea World, of course, and the Zoo is HUGE. We really like the San Diego Wild Animal Park, though. Come to think of it, though, the animals aren't real close, because they're allowed to live relatively as naturally as they can, in a savanna-like setting (giraffes, gazelles, buffalo, ostriches, zebras, rhinos all together in a huge pen) that you go see on a train.
You'll want to find a hotel very close so you can go back to it in the afternoon for naps, etc. Then you can go back to the parks after an early dinner. Take or rent strollers, and maybe take a baby backpack/carrier for the baby, just for a change of view. Take lots of snacks. That will help prevent meltdowns in the parks. Take sunscreen, of course.
You may also want to take a day to go to the beach. My 3 year old LOVED the beach when we went last year, and he still begs to go back. It's an opportunity you won't get too often in Logan!
You can check the weather forecast on www.noaa.gov before you go. You can also find some almanac information and see what the average temps are each month.
And since you have no one in school, you might consider going in early Fall. The weather will still be very nice, and you may get better deals on hotels, etc.

We did Disneyland and Sea World when our DS were that age. We took the double stroller and had naps each day, except for the day we did Sea World. We were then able to go back in the evening when it was cooler and still have rested kids. We also took a reliable teen with us to help out, which gave us some evening time to ourselves, as well. We weren't flying, so that was a bit easier. I know an extra ticket is very expensive. Just try to remember it's more important that everyone have a good time than that you get to see everything. You might check out the schedules of feeding times, etc., before you go, so you can have a plan. Have fun!

we are heading to Sd at the endof AUG with our 4 yo and our 11mo. it it will be extremely hot but there are a ton of beaches to play at remember the sunscreen as the sun at the beach really burns and maybe try lego land for your 3 yo and maybe the sandiego zoo or wild animal park there is also sea world of course best of luck to you for a really fun vacation!

If you are going to the San Diego area, definitely go to Legoland- I would choose this for your age group over Sea World. I think Sea World is great but my children enjoyed it much more when they were older. Your 3 year old will probably be able to ride almost everything, if not everything at Legoland. We loved it so much we spent two days there, the park is EASILY covered in one day. The lines were not that long when we visited (about 6 years ago).It is an amusement park for the under 10 crowd so there aren't any big thrill rides. My 3 year old absolutely loved it and your baby will enjoy looking at all the bright colors, the lego colors. The legolands in England and Denmark are wonderful too - it you ever make it to those parts of the world. It has been a while since we visited the San Diego area and I don't remember what hotels we stayed in. Check out the trip advisor website, usually have pretty reliable reviews.
Have Fun,
Tam
