Vacation Time....

I have a quick question, I have my tubes tied but I don't want to have my period when I am on vacation that is coming up next month.. Is it safe to get the depo shot just to stop the periods so I don't have one during the vacation. Would it hurt anything. I just want some advice before I done it. Thanks By the way, I have been on the depo shot before and it stopped my periods. Didn't have break through bleeding. Just completely stopped it.

What can I do next?

I had the Depo shot and it was wonderful, I had no side effects and no period at all. But it affects women differently and you can't guarantee it will do for you what it did for me. I would definately call my doctor, they would be the best to give you advice about this. Good luck!

I really wouldn't do the depo just for this reason. There are way to many side effects to it. I would recommend the nuvaring. I use it all the time. With it you leave it in for 3 weeks and take it out for 1. If you just leave it in for 4 weeks and then replace it you are good to go and have no cycles. I did this recently when I was getting married. It works like a charm. Good luck!!

I don't reccommend you get a depo shot if you are not using it for its sole purpose as birth control. With any birth control there are side effects. Depending on your body depo can cause excessive weight gain, changes in your hair texture, hormones, and if used over long periods of time you become high risk for osteroprosis. (I know I did not spell that right). I know you want to be period free but that is not a good reason to take the depo shot and I don't even know if your doctor would prescribe it just for those reasons. Now if you are concerned that you might get pregnant even though your tubes were tied,(because that has happened but it is rare) then I would suggest the depo shot because it is very effective. Also if you do get the depo shot and it stops your periods, when it is time to get another shot you might be on your period nonstop until you get the next shop or until eventually your body adapts again to not being on the shot, which could be a couple of months or so. Can you imagine spotting and having a period for an entire month? It could happen. I would discuss it with your doctor. If they do not see the harm in it, then go for it. But those are just some things that could happen.

I would think to ask your doctor for the pill. I know a few women that have done this during their vacation. for the same reasons you are asking. Have a great time.

Hello
I'm on the depo right now. If you have been on depo before and haven't had your period, it couldn't hurt you. I don't know if the doctors would give it to you with your tube being tied. thats somthing you would have to talk to your doctor about. I know there is a 50% chance you could have your period with the depo. well good luck and god bless.

I wouldn't get it. For one, it would need to be a continuous thing to make them stop. One shot won't do it. Also, for some people, such as me, it makes you have a non stop period. I had one for four months straight before. So I wouldn't get it if I was you. There are also a lot of side effects from it, which is what forced me to go off of it.

I wouldn't reccomend the Depo shot. It never stopped my periods.

I do know of women that skipped the inert pills and started another pack of pills instead. If you have time to start them I would do that.

Depo doesn't stop periods in all women. A lot of women continually bleed for or month or more.

Careful, you could end up on your period for a month or two. It affects diffent women differently. I got that shot after two of my kids. Both times it made me bleed for three months! I would recommend it.
