Vacation Ideas with Toddler

Summer is almost over, and we were considering going away for a few days with our 16 month old daughter. She loves animals, dogs, cats, bunnies, etc., so I was thinking about a bed & breakfast at a farm or something like that. A friend of mine stayed in a place like that in Vermont but driving for 8 hours from NYC to Vermont with a toddler doesn't sound like fun. My question is does anyone know any good B&Bs located at farms, between 3 and 4 hours' drive away from NYC, and preferably kids friendly?

Thanks in advance!

I agree with other posters that Lancaster, PA is nice and also affordable. The Hershey Farm in Lancaster is in the middle of everything, affordable, has a restaurant and some small animals on the property. Here's a website for a farm in the Catskills I'd like to visit. A little pricey, but it includes your own cottage and breakfast/Dinner. There would be no charge for your little one. Good luck.

hi there. i also live in NYC and we had a great vacation wtih our then almost 2 year old daughter a few summers ago. we went to Amish Country / Lancaster County. it was less than 3 hours from NYC and it was beautiful! lots of horses to see (and we took a buggy ride which shse loved) and lots of cows, chickens, goats, etc. I can't remember where we stayed but there are sooo many places to stay there that i'm sure you will find something good. it's really beautiful there and very green and pretty. have fun!

Two places we absolutely love are in Lancaster.

Verdant view farm - B&B farm, google them for their website. You can milk cows, collect eggs, hay ride, etc. We will be staying here in 2 weeks!

Bird-in-Hand Family Inn - Gorgegous hotel with 3 pools(2 indoor, 1 outdoor), mini golf($), playground, restaurant, PETTING ZOO, FREE 2 HR TOUR OF AMISH COUNTRY ON BUS. (I cannot express how much my kids love this place!) This place has many amenities of a resort, but at very moderate hotel prices! We will continue our Lancaster vacation at this place!!!

P.S. - My kids are 9, 2.5, and 1

Here's a website for kid-friendly PA farm stays. Haven't been to any of them yet, but I'm hoping to one day. If you end up staying at one, please let me know how it was!

I just recommended Hershey, Dutch Wonderland and Hands-on House Children's Museum to someone else. Also near by is Howard Johnson with an indoor water park http://www.caribbeanlancaster.com/

I have heard great things about Sesame Place though I have never been. She can have breakfast with the characters and other activities fit for her age. I know this is not a b & b and you might not want to take her to a large park just yet but I thought I'd throw in the idea.

I don't blame you for not wanting to trek 8 hours in a car with a toddler. I wouldn't either. Have you researched the Pocono areas? They might have something for you.
