Using Reglan/metoclopramide to Increase Milk Supply
I would like to know if anyone has any experience using reglan, or metoclopramide, to increase their milk supply. My daighter is 4 months old, I have never had a real good milk supply because she didn't nurse real well initally. I went back to work last month and have noticed my milk supply has decreased. I heard about this from the lactation nurse. Any first hand experience would be great. Thanks

I used Fenugreek and it worked. I got it at a nutrition store. Mine came in capsules. I know there's a tea you can drink too. But, I found the capsules convenient.
Somebody online recommended it to me and I asked my ob doctor about it. He said that it was commonly used and for me to go ahead and try it. I did and it worked.

Hi S.. After my daughter was born 4 weeks early (and less than 6 pounds), I too tried to nurse her and she was a "lazy eater". She did not want anything unless it just fell into her mouth. I tried a 10 day course of the reglan and I did not see any increase in my milk supply. I tried to get her to nurse for 6 weeks and she just would not latch on and even when we switched to bottles and formula, she did not want to work for the milk. I will tell you that now she is 3 1/2 and eats like there is no tomorrow and is one of the tallest children in her class. Hope this helps. If I can help anymore please let me know. Good luck, A.

Hi
I had the same problem when I had my oldest. I was on a drug to increase my milk, can't remember the name... sorry.. it worked awesome, but when I went off my milk was GONE in 12 hours!!! I was very upset and had to stop nursing, they said it would have happened anyway, but I dont know if I would do that again..
Good Luck

My docs put me on that to help with slow digestion/heartburn during pregnancy. It works for the heartburn but it has a nasty side effect- depression. I did not make a connection that it was causing it until I googled reglan and came up with several hits for depression side effects. You can try it for milk supply but just be aware of that possible side effect.....

The pump that fits inside your bra is called the whisperwear. It's great! I used it when I had doula clients in labor I could just slip it in my bra and go about my business! I think if you look on ebay you can find a lady who sells them out of Lake City. She has them at a really good price!
Please don't stop nursing!!! Breast milk is the best milk. You can do it! Try the Mother's Milk Tea

I hope this helps!

I haven't any experience with those. I like to be a little more natural about things.... There's an herb called Fenugreek that will encourage your milk supply. Additionally, pumping while you're away from your lil one will increase your supply. It's a supply and demand system. The more is demanded of your body, the more it will supply. There are pumps out these days that are ... inconspicuous for lack of a better word. Pumps that fit right in your bra! I'm not sure if you can get them at the stores yet, as it's been a while since I've nursed I'm not up on everything as well. But I've seen them in baby magazines. Check online! Everything's on the internet. <g>
Good luck!

S.,
I took Fenugreek, ate Fennel and took another herb that I can't remember the name. I ended up taking Reglan 10 mg orally there times a day which is a much higher dosage than what is used for vomiting. I heard about it from my ped. I even pumped every 3 hours. The only thing that helped was the Reglan. But it can cause depression and anxiety. I cut back on the dosage due to anxiety, and my supply dropped, keeping every thing else the same. Once I stopped it I was dried up in 2 days. I only produced 2 oz per pumping at the height of my production on the reglan, but this was twice the volume I was producing before. So in short it works, but it may come at a cost. I always had to supplement with formula. It seems that poor milk production runs in my family.

I didn't use reglan but I used domperidone. It worked great and I ended up with too much milk for a little while. My supply was low due to a c-section and tongue tie. We are still nursing and dd is 18 months old. No supply problems since the domperidone and the tongue tie was fixed.
