Urgent - Seeking Advice on Monitoring Home Care Worker
Hi!
My Mom, My best friend, is very ill. She requires 24 hour care and is now unable to speak or effectively communicate, much like a baby. I am extremely concerned, I am actually sick over this, but I am not sure how her current aide is treating her. This is a desperate feeling and I need to do something quickly without making matters worse. Maybe I am wrong here, the aide seems pleasant enough, but something is just not sitting right with me. I am asking if anyone has any information regarding a good system for video monitoring of my Mom's home? I don't know where to start. Please, any help is appreciated.

I have a nanny cam if you are interested.... it has DVR capability.. so you just set it and forget it.. though it needs to be used in a well lit room.
I'm selling it for $200 if you are interested.
Here's a link to the one that I have (though this is NOT my ebay site)

Get a nanny cam. These cameras were designed to view whatever nannies were doing with children and they are disguised as many things, teddy bears, clocks, pictures...etc. Go on the internet and look for one. If you want to make a change anyway, simply because your instincts are telling you to, go on the internet to care.com and look for a caretaker for your mom. It's a great website that perhaps will offer you an option that will put your mind at ease. Good Luck!

C.,
I'm so sorry for what you and your mom are going through. It must be very difficult. I can hear it in your post that you are so distraught. I would be too. I know that you got a lot of responses about nanny cams, but I was wondering if it is possible to mover her in with you since you are home already. If she is very ill it probably won't matter to her where she is, but who she is with. Then you could still get an aide to help you out, but you would be right there to monitor, and then you wouldn't miss a moment with your best friend.
I wish I could reach right through the screen and give you a friendly squeeze! Trust your instincts..we daughters are really tuned in to our mothers and their needs, aren't we? Sounds like your mom is very lucky to have such a doting daughter. Hope my daughters feel that way about me when they are grown. I'll be praying for you.

If you are really concerned about her being mistreated, you could get a great "hidden camera" called a Nanny Cam. Soe are disguised as things like clock radios so you can see what's really happening and they don't know a camera is there. Some are fairly expensive. I looked them up and would have given you a link but there are so many sites out there. Just Google NANNY CAM. You just have to check about the legality. Depends on the state you're in if you can legally use a hidden camera.
I hope your fears are unfounded but trust your instinct. ALWAYS go with your gut.

Hi C.,
If it makes you feel better, get a camera. Our experience with my grandmother showed us there are many very caring people out there and that is the norm. Ask for references, and then follow up with them. We had two wonderful people care for my grandmother and we will be always grateful. Hope this gives you hope. M.
