Universal Studios Hollywood with Small Children

Has anyone taken young kids (5 and under) to Universal Studios Hollywood? Did they like it? Did they ask to go again?

My sister's family is going, and we want to meet them. Trying to decide if we should get the passes from Costco (2 days for $59 - this is cheaper than a 1-day ticket at the park), or, if they would really like it, there is a pretty good price for an annual pass on the website ($80 for 12 months, some black out days). It isn't that much more so we are considering it. But, since we have to get 4 tix, if we aren't really going to want to go back, then we won't want them.

I haven't been there since college. From the website, it looks like there are some things the kids would like, but would we want to go a lot? My husband thinks we should suggest LegoLand instead (which my kids do love). Our boys are just turned 5 and 3, and we also have a 6-month-old. My sister's kids are 7, 7 (twins), 4, and 7-month-old.

Thanks for sharing your experiences!

So What Happened?

I really, really appreciate all of your responses!! I hope we can get my sister to choose LegoLand. Thanks to your shared experiences, we definitely won't get the year pass even if we do go to Universal.

I will update again once we decide, and definitely if we go.

Universal is great to go to once every couple of years, but not really any mote often than that. My 13yo just went twice in the last 4 months or so. She had a blast the first time and was really looking forward to going again, but was bored the 2nd time. I also agreed it's geared for older kids. Would definitely agree that Lego Land would be the way to go. :)

I've only been to universal Orlando with my 5 year old he's into superheros so it was fun for him even though he couldn't do many rides.

We had tickets for Universal. It was a 5 day pass but you were able to use them spread out over the course of a year (purchased at costco).
We went once by ourselves. We planned on going back and taking our daughter, but it just wasn't worth it. We did everything in a day, and most of the stuff was not for young kids. Don't get me wrong there were tons of little ones, but they usually ended up crying on the virtual rides they were allowed on and the parents took them on. The studio tour, while interesting to me, was long (a long wait too), a tad on the boring side, and the King Kong 3D experience jerks the tour car around...yeah lots of little screaming kids. A lot of the virtual rides have age requirements (the Simpsons was one of them). House of Horror would be too scary for kids. Terminator has lots of smoke and loud gun shots going off. I think you get the idea.
Really the only attractions for small children are the water play area and the Shrek adevnture. If they could sit still for the Hollywood animal show they might enjoy that too.
We had fun as an adult couple, but like I said...wasn't worth going back with our daughter. I would skip it with the little ones. Legoland is awesome and so is the Zoo!
Good Luck =)

We just went. My kids had a blast, BUT they are 7 and 8. The only things that your little ones can do is the Curious George water play area and Shrek. It's fun, but is it worth the $$?

I think Universal Studios Hollywood is a little boring for kids; mine had fun (they were 8 and 6) but there wasn't a whole lot for them to do (especially compared to Disneyland). Personally, I think that it's definitely a one-day experience. I think LegoLand would be a lot more fun for them; I've heard great things about it and can't wait for the chance to take my kids there. Have a great vacation!

We just took our kids, 4 and 10, to Legoland and Seaworld. We all enjoyed Legoland so much!! There are so many things to do with there with young kids! Honestly in my opinion, there really is not much for the little ones at Universal. We went there about a year ago and my daughter was too little for the rides, got scared at all the shows and fell asleep on the tram tour! Go to Legoland instead. (Their water park is really great too)!

DH and I went to Universal Studios Hollywood a few years ago on a trip without the kids. I would NOT recommend this theme park for small kids. Agree that about the only thing they may enjoy is Curious George play area and Shrek. The rest of the rides are for adventerous older kids to adults.

Universal was interesting for me, but for a kid that young I do see there being a ton of appeal.

I'd go with Legoland vs. Universal Studios Hollywood for children 5 and under. Your sisters 7 year olds will love it, too. I think Universal is really geared towards 3-D rides/experiences and none of my kids liked that stuff when they were little. We went to California last month and I have a 4 1/2 year old and decided she would never like Universal . . . there just isn't that much stuff their geared towards kids her age.

You might want to check the Legoland website for height and age restrictions.

I've been to Universal a couple times, and it def is better for older kids. My sister was here visiting with her girls, the youngest was 5 and the oldest was 11 at the time. They went to Legoland and they all had a great time. I haven't been to Legoland yet, but I'd say sway your sister if you can so you all get more bang for your buck.

Have fun!
