Unexplained Stomach Pains

My 5 1/2 year old has been complaining of stomach pains and nauseau, on and off for the past five days. He threw up once the first night, but not since. The pain and nausea seem to come and go. He doesn't have much of an appetite, though I suspect he's more afraid to eat than not hungry, since he hates to throw up. He does not have a fever, though back in July he did have a fever for two days accompanied by vomiting. No other symptoms.
Any thoughts or ideas?

Thanks for everyone's guidance! He is much better today, eating and willing to shower and go outside for a bit. So, I'm assuming it was just a stomach bug, but I am calling the pediatrician to ask if they want to see him on Monday.

Anytime a problem lasts more than 24 hours with a child...Call the doctor immediately for an immediate appointment to rule out something serious... after the exam and bloodwork, inquire about the plan of action to maintain food and appetite for the child. you may want to increase fiber and water...those are two very important maintenance tools for children, and adults. also, a multiple vitamin at bedtime is helpful...best of luck, don't put this off any longer... You definately need to take your son to the doctor immediately. There are so many things that could be wrong. it may be something little, like the parent suggested like strep, but it could be something more. He may have accidently swallowed something he shouldn't like a coin that may have gotten stuck. You never know till you get it checked out. Especially with all the different flu's that seem to be going around.

I always go with this, if the kids complain of somehting I give it a couple of days, if it is still around come day 3, we are off to the doctors as it is more than a little virus that they need help getting over.

Good luck and here is praying it is something little and easily fixed.

There are a lot of different reasons he may be having stomach pains and nausea. He should definitely go see the doctor. He could have appendicitis and if left alone, his appendix could burst and that can cause a terrible infection. Please call the pediatrician and have him seen.

My daughter had something like this a little while back and it turned out to be a virus.. viruses can hang around for up to 6 weeks. If you are concerned though i would definitely make an appointment with the doctor. Is there anything you noticed he may have eaten that would have made him sick? does he feel nausea after he eats certain things? with stomach bugs can be worse with dairy products. Make sure his poop is normal too.. with changes in that it may be a sign of something. Hope this helps! Good Luck!!

Our doc explained to us that those are symptoms of constipation. Could also be something else, but I would take him to have it checked. Better to be safe, right?
Hope he is feeling better soon.

a few that come to mind from experience with my kids:
strep (this one is tricky). one of my daughters only has stomach pains and complained that her legs hurt. turned out it was strep. no fever. no cough, nothing. it was strep.
hunger (we call it tummy monster)
constipation.

call the doctor and take your son in to see what it is. always better not to ignore.
good luck
