My son is 9 years old and brought it to my attention a week ago that his left testicle was in his lower abdomen. It was hard to find but I felt it. It seems to be lodged in one spot and not movable. I'am scared to death. No idea how long it's been there,or why it can't be moved. I'am taking him to emergency room in the morning. Does anyone know what I should expect to find out? Is this as serious as I think or am I over reacting?
Won't be able to see a dr. For about 4 more hours. So worried about how serious this will be. Wish someone could let me know what wrong,what should I expect the dr. to say? Anyone been through this or know anything about it?

I'm sorry - if he testicle was undescended? You would have been told when he was a year old - especially if you go to your regular well-child check ups.
With your experience in kids, from your profile, you should know this is NOT an emergency. It can wait until the doctor's office opens tomorrow. This would ONLY warrant an ER visit if your son was in serious pain.

make an apt with a urologist .. he may need surgery but it is a short quick surgery..

i'm sorry. With 4 boys, at every pediatrician visit, they check their p****** p****. This should have been discovered YEARS ago.

Call the doctor's office tomorrow. Ask to be seen same day. If they can't? Then you need to find another pediatrician. Then find a specialist - a pediatric urologist and get it fixed. If it is left up, it can pose a cancer risk later in life.
I don't think you need to go to the emergency room. How to you find out his testicle is in his abdomen? Has it always been there? I would think a pediatrician would've caught it by now. Undescended testicles are fairly common. He can have surgery to bring it down, but it's nothing that needs to be done via an emergency room.
This is not an emergency unless your son is in pain. Call his pediatrician tomorrow. Your son is fine. Relax and don't scare him. The ER doctors will just tell you to follow up with his physician anyway.
One day more probably won't make a difference.... they will probably diagnose it (which you already have noticed it), and tell you to see his physician for a surgical referral.

Testicular retraction
This website shows that one of the reasons for an undescended testicle is not that uncommon, and disappears by age 13..... this may be the case with your son. This also may be the reason your doctor either has not noticed it, or has not mentioned it.....

Look at the part that talks about "retractile testes" and "Ascending testes syndrome" .... I think both of these will ease your mind.
I realize you are stressed and worried, but I really think this could wait until you could get in to see his regular pediatrician on Monday.
If you are really concerned, is there a nurse line for your insurance that you can call and talk to them?
Just curious... if this was brought to your attention a week ago, why is it now all of a sudden becoming an ER emergency? You could have addressed it during the week at the doctor's office.....
This is not an emergency! Please make an appointment with a pediatrician. I know a man with one testicle that did not discend. He's OK in every way. The other one works fine.
His testicle has been that way for months. Why the emergency room? They can't do anything about it. Call the advice nurse or your doctor's office to get information.
When my son was 9, he was a bit overweight, and this happened a few times. I took him to a Urologist, and he said that with the extra weight that it was a normal occurrence. He gently applied pressure and it went in to place. He removed the pressure and it popped back up.
no need for the ER. it's not uncommon. my dad and youngest brother both had this condition.
they both ended up having minor surgery to drop 'im down (leaving it there can eventually pose a cancer risk) but my dad didn't have it done until he was an adult man who had sired 6 kids. my brother had it taken care of when he was about your son's age.
i'm sure the doctor will suggest you have it freed, but no need for panic.
i can't imagine why your ped never discovered this before!

I would SO much rather pick my surgeon than have this done in a few hours. Please talk to them about this.
I picked my surgeon when I found out that I had a hernia, and had the surgery done before it became an emergency situation so that I wasn't having to go to the ER in the middle of the night and have to have it done by a doc I'd never met. I do hope that your son isn't running a high fever or that he's in a lot of pain. If he's not, perhaps you could wait too.
I am also sorry (and a little puzzled) as to why a doctor has never known that your son has an undescended testicle. My doctors always palpated my sons' testicles when they were little and knew they had descended.
