My son is having surgery on 5/13. He is has one testicle and they are doing surgery to find the other one, remove it if it is not good, as well as tacting down the other testicle. Have any moms out there had this experience?

The surgery took 1 hour,coming out of anesthesia was 30 minutes.They found that his testicle had twisted while Cayden was in his developmental stage so they took the remains of it out as well as tact the other testicle in place as a precaution. I gave him a bottle at 3am the night before so he would not be hungry in the am,and about 30 minutes after he came to us, he drank a bottle and had some food. He has been extra sleepy the last two days but very active when awake,like he did not even have surgery. Little kids are unbelievable!
Yes, my younger brother and his son had the same problem! It was more stress on the parents than for them! Usually it all works out!

My ten month old son had this exact same surgery when he was almost six months old. He was born with one undescended testicle and the pediatric urologist we took him to was wonderful (Dr. William Strand). Dr. Strand uses a laparoscopic approach through the belly button to determine where the testes is located and then perform the surgery to move it to the testicle sack. My son's testes was atrophic (dead tissue). This was removed and a hernia was found and repaired. The entire procedure lasted less than an hour. It was very difficult to say good-bye to him and hand him over to the nurses to take him to the operating room, but I felt that he was in the best of hands at Children's Medical Center. Afterwards in the recovery room, he was very upset, but I think that was because the nurse tried to give him a bottle when I had told them he was strictly breastfed at that time. It took a couple of days for him to be back to his old self, but the Christmas holidays didn't necessarily help. My son had this procedure done when he was 6 mo. old. They had to remove it bc once they found it, it had twisted and cut off blood supply. He is now 11 and has never had any problems at all. He is still in every sport he wants to participate in and the recovery was so easy for him. Good luck and God bless. I know it's scary, but everything will be fine!! :) C.
My grandson had this surgery just a couple of months ago. He is 2 1/2 and did great. The surgery was a complete success. He has a tiny scar that he can see on his lower abdomen and then another he can't see at the bottom of the testicle. He just calls the upper one an "OWIE" and doesn't even know about the other one.
He will do fine. It is a common surgery. Take a deep breath.
My brother went through that .Turns out he only had one.He's 54 with three children and doing fine..I pray that things will work out fine.
My 5 year old son had the same problem, when he was near 18 months old we had surgery to bring down the undescended testicle and tie it in place. The surgery went fine, the only hard part was when he was coming out of the anesthesia; he was very confused so he was screaming and thrashing his body, he even bit my husband. The doctor said this is common though for young ones coming out of anesthesia. After that we've had no problems whatsoever, it is a distant memory. I hope this helps ease any concerns you have. :)
My son had that surgery when he was 6 mos old. They made a tiny incision (right about where a c-section incision would be made) about an inch long and another one even smaller below his scrotum. Once they pulled it down into place they "sewed/tact" it to stay put. It seemed pretty simple enough and he healed just fine. He is 7 now and although it is very clear which one it was there have been no problems with it at all. I know the thought of your baby going through this is hard enough but he'll be just fine and it'll be over and done with. The sooner his testis are out away from the body and cooler temp the better. My husband had this done - but he was a teenager when it was done. He only has one testicle now but he is fine - no health issues or fertility issues! Looks like you got a lot of great advice. I know it is always hard to pass over your child for surgery so just be prepared and pray!
My son had this surgery at 18 months old. He did great! It was not a big deal. He was up and running in no time. for us it was just a day surgery. Good luck! B.
My son had this very same surgery a few years ago. Other than having to keep him still for about a week (no strenuous activity), it went incredibly smoothly! I rented tons of movies and loaded up on popcorn and we had 'movie days'. It kept him still and preocuupied! Good luck!
My son had a hydroseal when he was 2 (water in the testies). We used Dr. Darrell Herman at Presby Plano. He was amazing!! My aunt is also a pediatric surgeon and recomended him. I also referred him to friends and they loved him as well. Good Luck!
I don't usually talk about it but my son was born with NO testicles in the bag. The doctor wouldn't allow him to be circumcised until they were SURE he was a boy! I was in agony. My aunt was crying and praying, and my hubby couldn't even get his head around the whole ordeal. It took a sonogram to find the testicles and now they are secure and exactly where they need to be. My dad was like your son and back then, babies were born at home and no one knew anything. He didn't realize there was a problem until he went into the Navy an he had to have surgery just like your son. He was probably 20 at the time so I'm pretty sure it wasn't any good by then. However, 4 years later, he created my brother and 7 years after that--he created ME!!!! So I don't think there's much to worry about as far as your son functioning normally. That should be ok. I will be keeping him in my thoughts still and I hope he recuperates swiftly.
