Umbilical Cord Blood Donation
I'm trying to donate my umbilical cord blood in New Orleans area. Has anyone had luck with this? If so, can you give me name/number of who to contact? Thanks

I tried and tried! There is a national company that will send you a kit for collection and then has a courier come get it. Cryobanks international: www.cryo-intl.com. Unfortunately for me, they decided they didn't want my donation. I don't know why, they didn't say. Perhaps my age? (39) It was a lot of paperwork for nothing, but would have been worth it if they had accepted it. Evidently they only accept about 50% of applicants and then only about 50% of those once collected. I tried with my first pregnancy, but they also won't accept blood from twin pregnancies - even if they are fraternal. Good luck.

L., That is great that you want to donate you cord blood! I will be honest, I can't remember the name but I believe there is a place on the North Shore that takes it. Ask your Doctor, they may know. Good Luck!!!

L.,
I just found the bank I tried to deal with during my first pregnancy. It's cryobanks international. You can print their "application" directly from the internet (www.cryo-intl.com) and then go from there. With my first, I didn't have enough cord blood for a successful donation. I'm hoping to have enough this go around.
