Ugly Wardrobe

I'm about a size 6 or 8 depending on the designer and about a 7 or 7 1/2 shoe. My current wardrobe is so sick and needs a recharge. My funds (especially in this economy and two babies in daycare) are limited. However, I like to look and feel nice. Where can I go to find some nice clothing for women?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Thanks to everyone...I love this forum. You guys have given me a lot of information. I'm printing it all out and plan on doing the research and visiting a few places with the girls in tow. :) A few pieces at a time and my closet should start to look like that of a young professional woman/mother.

I'm not sure where you live, but if your in the Atlanta area there are tons of consignment stores. Just do a google search for consignment stores in your city. I also like Marshall's, TJ Maxx and Ross. If you can go alone without the kids because you will have to do some hunting to put together an outfit, but you can get some nice stuff for cheap. I was in the Marshall's in Alpharetta last week and they had at least 10 racks of clearance items. Name brand pants, skirts, and tops for under $15.

About a year or so ago I saw on 20/20 or something similar how women/friends all got together and brought the clothes that they could no longer fit and/or just wanted something different and swopped with each other. When I saw this message, it reminded me of my favorite size 4-8 jeans, suits, and tops that I've stacked in my closet and have refused to get rid of cause I promised I'll get back to that size again someday after 2 kids :-) I'm starting to think maybe not. Anyway, maybe you can organize something like that with your friends/family where you all get together to swop clothes that you can no longer fit and a friend can fit, or you just want a different wordrobe....no cost to anyone.

Hey B., Where do you live? I live in Atlanta, well at least I have a home there and I have a lot of clothes. When I get back there, if you would like, I will send you some. I am getting ready to move and needed to go through my closet anyway and any single mom rasing two beautiful children is where I would like my clothes to go. Let me know where you live. Also go the www.TheHeartAlliance.com it is a no cost female women's networking community that I founded and I think you could meet other great women who might want to help you as well. Blessings,

Hi B.,
First of all, you must buy the right colors! Take your kids to the library and get out a book called "color me beautiful" (after the cookbooks). I know you don't have time to read, it's not really a reading book, more of a skimming through book. Buying colors that are flattering on you is the absolute most important thing to looking good in your clothes!

Second, there is a neat program called Missus Smarty Pants. It's just advice on what to buy for your body type. Check out http://www.missussmartypants.com/.
Hope this helps!

There are great consignment stores around the metro area, and this is the perfect time of year for weekend consignment sales. I know the Northside Consignment Sale (www.Northsideconsignmentsale.com) is in two week, and not only do that have children's clothing, they have ladies clothing as well. A good site for the weekend mega consignment sales is www.bargainwatcher.com

For new clothes, you can't beat Ross. I got a pair of Michael Korrs pants, orginally priced at $158.00 for $10.99! You can find some great stuff there, if you look!

Good luck, and happy (inxepensive) shopping!

well, if your clothes must be new, read no further, But if you are OK with slightly used clothes, go to Goodwill. You will find designer clothing, sometimes new pieces. Be patient and keep going back and you will find what you want. Great place for children. clothes.J. Gorrdon
