Ugly Skin

This may be a strange question, but I was wondering what skin care products work for you other moms with nice skin. I can't keep my complexion looking nice no matter what I do lately. My face looks dull and blotchy, I have some acne by my hairline (not terrible but enough to be yuck) and it looks like I have a moustache! Lately I have been using either Alpha Hydroxy foaming cleanser and Neutrogena Visibly Even and I use Dove daily facial moisturizer with 15 SPF. I also use face bleach for the moustache problem but it doesn't seem to help with visibility. My hair isn't the nicest it has ever been either. It is kinda dry and lacks shine. Help! I used to look pretty and now I look like a hag! I guess lack of sleep and little time for upkeep don't help the situation either. If you have any secrets (that don't cost an arm and a leg), I would love to hear them. Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

My skin cleared up pretty much over time. I used the visibly even faithfully every day and started using the Suave extreme strength line of products on my hair. It actually works! As for the mustache, I went on the pill again and that seemed to help. I had ovarian cysts that were making my hormones crazy and causing all sorts of problems as it turned out. Now that my hormones are balancing out, things are getting a little better. I am also getting a little more sleep because my son has stopped waking up three times a night. I still can't lose weight, not for lack of trying. I wish I was back to my self years ago, but that seems like a past life. I guess I have to come to terms with the person I am now, instead of always trying to get back to the thin, adorable little person I was as a singleton without kids.
Thank you all for the useful input! It is nice to see how many other moms out there care enough to help out another mom.

I use Clinque, and I think it does a nice job. It's a little pricier than the stuff you can get at Target, but not too much more. I think the soap is $8.50 for the bar, and maybe $11.50 for the pump style, and the lotion is around $17. They have a 3 step procees, but I don't use every step. Their website has the information and pricing on it, go to www.clinique.com
If you can get it at their "bonus time", you'll get free stuff (samples and such) so the price won't seem too high then. The stuff actually last a really long time, I think I get new stuff around every 3 months or so.

I use the Proactive cleansing system (from the infomercials). The products aren't harsh and my skin feels good and looks good. I've been using it for about 5 years and I love it.

It is a little pricey but I found I don't need to use it as often as directed so that cuts down on the cost. I also joined the club. They like to mail the cleanser/toner/lotion to you every 2 months, but you can request less frequent mailings. I get it every 4 months. You don't have to join the club to buy it. You can buy it as you need it from their website.

i love aveeno products. i have very sensitive skin. i use the aveeno daily scrub every am and pm. i also use the daily moisturizer with sunscreen - it is supposed to help even skin tone too. aveeno products aren't inexpensive, but not rediculously priced either...

OK - sounds weird, but get your thyroid checked...

I would talk to your doctor cause you may have a medical condition that is causing some of these problems such as a thyroid problem. Good Luck

avon has a at home chemical peel that works wonders, it cost about $25 and it will remove all that dead dull skin, and leave your face with glowing healthy skin, olay has a kit also, for about the same price, but i have never used it. adult acne is a problem. try ACNE FREE, its the generic brand of proactive and it can be bought at walmart, for $17 for the kit, or you can buy the acne cream for about $2, works great, clears up skin in about 2 days, overnight you will notice a difference.

get yourself a daily clarifying shampoo, and use it for like 3 days, then switch back to another shampoo. use the daily clarifying for about 3 days 1x a month to remove shampoo build up. see shampoo's, soap and skin creams are made of fat, which builds up on your skin and hair, all you have to do is look at your tud and shower and see that buildup, its not dirt, its soap, shampoo, i know, i make soap, shampoo, even glyercian soap is made of fat{ and a whole bunch of other things} that builds up.

then i would do some highlights in my hair, that would take care of any dullness, then get a haircut, a mini make over, a little at a time, your worth it.

Hi A.,

Try Arbonne Swiss Skin Care products. I have been using them for two years - they are wonderful! Check out their website. www.arbonne.com

Good Luck!

Sally Hanson cream hair removal for face-use it every couple weeks, works like a charm.

I don't sell the stuff at parties, but I signed on with Arbonne so I could get the discount on their products for myself. Their anti-aging face line is awesome. My skin is the best it has ever been and it only took about a week or two to show visible results. I know I sound like a salesperson, but I'm really not. My whole family uses it now and we all love it. It does really work. You don't need to get the whole line (expensive). The daily cleanser, toner and day time moisturizer are enough.

Good luck to you!

I just saw your post and was wondering if you had any luck yet with what you were seeking. If not, I can recommend BeatuiControl's skin care lines and makeup products. The products are formulated to target three layers of skin, and work to maintain clear skin, repair damaged skin, and prevent damage to inner layers. There are lines for sensitive, acne, and three other types of skin. Products can be mixed and matched from each line to create a solution just for your concerns. Best of all, they are reasonably priced, easy to get, and you can book Free one hour in home SpaEscape with me and earn your skin care set at 50% off. Please see my business listing on MamaSource for information!

A couple of thoughts from the skin care lady: your basic routine is great (two thumbs up for daily sunscreen!). Hairline acne is often a reaction to whatever you're using in your hair, so since you say your hair's not looking great either, it might be a good time to try some different (inexpensive) hair products. I just got a sample of the Sunsilk ThermaShine system (the purple bottles), and I really like the shine it gives. If you're really growing facial hair with any length, you're going to need to remove it, not just bleach. Maybe waxing? As for the dull, blotchy skin, exfoliation is good for the dullness, but go gentle and use a peel rather than a scrub, because scrubs can make any acne or blotchiness worse. I also like Olay Regenerist serum, or you could also try any of the retinol products available at the drugstore. And, of course, there's always makeup. Neutrogena makes a tinted moisturizer with SPF 20 or 30 that comes in several shades and isn't too expensive. You could switch that in for your Dove moisturizer on days when you feel extra blotchy. And on a whole-body front, how are you eating? It sounds like you might not be getting enough good fats in your diet, which will make both your skin and hair look dry and sort of deflated. Flaxseed oil supplements are a cheap source of omega-3 and -6 fatty acids, which are super for your skin and also good for your cholesterol levels, but it will take several weeks to show improvement from anything you do from the inside out. Feel free to contact me if you have any other questions--M.
