Ok ladies. So I am 35, 3 kids. Normally my monthly cycle has always come on the same day every month 30 days apart, always last 6-7 days. There have been times in the recent years it moved by a week for no obvious reason. But then it would stay normal.
The last 6 months or so, there have been a couple months where I have had two complete cycles in a month!!!! I started this month on the 1st, had a pretty heavy cycle it lasted almost a week. Well this morning I wake up and I have started again!

Is this normal? I know I need to go in to an OB, I am past due for my yearly and I will definitely talk w/ them, but I was just wondering. Its bad enough having one a month, I definitely don't want two!

What can I do next?

Yes, if you take 365 and divide it by 30 you get almost 13 cycles per month. If you were normal like most women who only have a 28 day cycle you would have at least 13 cycles per year so at least one month would have one at the very beginning then another the last week.

So what you're doing is normal.

A lot of women do birth control and there are 28 pills in the pack. That is because the menstrual cycle is generally 28 days. Across the board. Some do have less days in theirs and like you, some do have more days in theirs.

If it happens once in awhile on an irregular basis, it's not a problem - it's a very common peri-menopause thing.
The hormones are fluctuating and an ovary misfires every so often - early or late.
I had this happen to me maybe 2 or 3 times spread out over a year.
I'd have a normal period then have an early one 14 days later (lasting 5 days for me).
I also would skip a month here and there, too.
My periods would be normal, normal, early, normal, normal, late, normal, early, normal, normal, etc randomly all over the place - this went on for years.
Now I'm 51 and to a point where I can sometimes go 50 - 63 days between periods and I'm hoping they stop altogether pretty soon now - they are just a pointless bother.
The only way I can tell if a period is coming is I break out with a blemish or two the day before.

If it happens a lot - every time - you can start to feel anemic pretty quickly.
My friend had this happen - her time between periods shortened till she was almost bleeding continuously.
It turned out to be an early symptom of breast cancer.
They caught it early and she's fine now - been cancer free over 15 years.

My OB told me it's all part of perimenopause. I also have menorraghia (sp) which means my cycles are heavy, frequent, and can last up to a month sometimes. Sometimes I could skip two months and not have a cycle at all. But, when it came, it was horrible.

It's important to talk with OB about this. For one, losing alot of blood can make you anemic. I've been taking the Pill, a multivitamin, and an antidepressant. Horomonal imbalances can make your life a living he!!, if not treated.

I started doing that shortly after I turned 40, and my GYN said it could be early onset menopause - my body ovulating like crazy in a last ditch attempt to get pregnant.
I had an endometrial ablation and it solved the problem..

I am not sure if I completely understand the time frame. If you are talking on the first and then now the 21st you are shifting a week which is odd but not unusual. I guess I am just looking at even a person who has their period every 28 days should have their period twice in one month though I haven't figured out the math as to the frequency. Like this month you should have had your period twice, on the first and the 29th.

I'm 34 and about 3 yrs ago or so, I was having cycles for an entire month. I thought it was over n went in for an exam n told the Gyno what's been going on n she said I was still bleeding. It just wasn't coming out. She then told me that she believed I was peri menopausal.
Hope this helps.

Good luck

If that is happened more then 2-3 months in a row, I would have yourself checked. I had a cycle from that, and it then changed to 26 days, then 24, etc..It was a pain.

I talked to my Dr. and she put me on Birth control to even out my cycle. I know am regulated, and have one cycle a month.

My cycle started changing at about 35. I had a hysterectomy 3 years ago but before then my cycle was every 21 to 23 days where it used to be every 26 days like clock work. You should still see your OB but it's probably just your body changing. Good luck.

Have your thyroid checked. When your period is more frequent, especially if it is pretty heavy, it can be a sign that your thyroid is out of whack. Pregnancy can cause your thyroid to work less efficiently, and after your baby is born, the thyroid won't necessarily go back to normal. There are many other symptoms of low thyroid, too. You can read about them at www.stopthethyroidmadness.com.

I underwent the same shift after 35 and my obgyn said that as long as the cycle is not shorter than 21 days it's considered a normal perimenopausal change. Obviously if you are experiencing additional changes, such as heavy bleeding or increased pain it can potentially mean fibroids and such. So yes, definitely worth checking.

I've had that happen to me before. My doctor at the time asked me if I was stressed and at that time I was. The doctor said it could be from my stressing about something and that I needed to relax and then my body will go back to normal.

It's not uncommon for your body to experience these types of changes after age 35 and the birth of several children. It may be "normal", it may be a sign of something else, but certainly not anything to worry about or rush to the doctor about.

Make your appointment and discuss it with your OB at the appt.
