Hi there!
The last few days my thumb above my knuckle and one side of my pointer finger on the same hand have both been turning blue. Not a dark blue, but definitely a shade of blue. I started to panic a bit because I've never seen that happen before. I'm wondering if anyone else has had this happen before and if so, what was causing it? I called my doctor tonight and he didn't seem totally worried about it. With that being said, I do plan on going into my internist to have her check it out. I want to add that my thumb and pointer finger are not constantly blue. The discoloration seems to come and go and I am not in any pain or discomfort from it either.
Anyone have experience this?

Hey there. I've had this same issue since I was 15 (now 35). The discoloration has happen in shades of ble, black or purple. For me, this problem was diagnosed as "Raynaud's Syndrome" also known as Raynaud's Phenomenon. The doctor described it to me (20 years ago) as a result of blood vessels collapsibg / constricting and going into spasms. Not painful and I was offered no treatment options other than to take supplemental niacin to improve circulation and to avoid caffeinne. You should see your doctor to be sure, of course. You might also consider a rheumatologist rather than an internist. Good luck!!
do you have breathing issues like asthma?
This may sound strange but do you knit? My mom had this same problem and finally .... After many doctor appointments .... Realized she was knitting a blue lanket and the dye was rubbing off on her fingers! Hope you are better soon.
Hey Mama,
I think you need to call the doctor. It sounds like those areas are not receiving blood. It could also be a sign of a more serious condition.

It's called the er, and I would go there.
Are you cold too? if so check out Renaults Syndrome (FYI...it is nothing serious!!!).
Or do you have an injury? As your body tries to heal it sends extra blood to the area and when there is a change in temperature it can look quite obviously blue or even blackish on the hands and feet.
Good Luck!
