I am a single mom who ia full time student. Money is tight so I cannot afford to take my daughter to Sylvin ot places similar to it. I am looking for someone who would help my daughter with math. My daughter struggles with issues in school and I want her to be successful. Please let me know if any of you know of one I could check out.

What can I do next?

Talk to her math teacher (or another one at the school, like the dept. head) about it. Maybe they can do some time after school one day a week to help her clarify concepts. Sylvan, etc. are big profit-makers and if what she needs is one-on-one time with a caring teacher, that should come from the school if at all possible. And may cost you less...every girl needs a good relationship with one math teacher in her life! (No, I did not, but am eternally thankful my daughter had an awesome one in middle school)

I'm not sure where you live but... there is a woman who runs a tutoring business out of her house in Danville. She, as well as her staff, is great. Her website is literacyexpress.com

where do you live? I might be able to help, depending on what level she is at and where you are willing to go. I am a mom of three little ones and they nap during the day. I tutored a friends girl for geometry and algebra, I am no professional, but I did help her take her grade from a low c to an A. Let me know and maybe I can help out. Also, a friend of mine that lives down the street tutors, but I am not sure the ages and all that stuff, but I could find out if you are interested. We live in Danville.

I, also, think it is a great idea to talk to the teacher.

Some ways for free or low cost tutoring can include:
1. a peer (student in her class) tutor to work with her during class time
2. A high school student that is good in math needing community service hours
3. Post your need for a volunteer tutor at the different colleges that have education/special education majors. The schools around here are: San Francisco State, San Jose State, Notre Dame da Namur.
