Tubal Ligation Not Immediately Post-birth Information
Hello all,
Can anyone tell me about their experience with Tubal Ligation as a medical procedure far after giving birth? I am almost 37, I have 2 beautiful children and my spouse & I are done having children. We are considering vasectomy or tubal ligation but honestly my husband has had many medical issues including 3 hernia surgeries and he is a very slow recoverer. I am looking for any information good or bad about women who had tubal ligation later in life, not immediately post-op birth as the research I have read describes different recovery issues.
I am not interested in essure as many blogs are not favorable in that procedure, nor any hormones as I had horrible weight gain, depression and mood swings on the pill and depo-provera.
Thank you very much for any personal insight.

FYI all that is not up to date on this procedure. I had this done and it is by far way different than cutting and burning. I had one done where they go through the navel and put a band, like a rubber band around your tubes. This tube seals the tubes so that nothing goes through. If you shall change your mind later, say a new husband, God forbid, the lost a child, you can get the band taken off, tubes fused together so that you can have another child. As long as you have this on you will not get pregnant. I have had it for over 11 years and no problems. It's a one day surgery type thing. You do not vomit afterwards. You will be sore around the area so you can wear anything that will touch it. There may be a little tenderness in the area of your navel, nothing that tylenol or something like that won't take away. There isn't anything else you have to go through. Life goes on as normal, you can even go to work immediately afterwards, like the next day or so. The only thing to consider is if you have an issue with the anathesia. Good Luck.

I had a tubal ligation in my 30s and did not experience any difficulties. It was one of the best things I've ever done! The doctor goes inside your navel so there is very little scarring afterwards. As with any surgery there are side effects. I experienced vomiting but that was about it. Just make sure that you are completely done having children as the doctor ties and burns your tubes so there is no reversal in this procedure. I wish you the best!

Ann,
My advice would be to go for the vasectomy. It is a very minor in-office procedure. My husband did it, and it took about 15 minutes. He was on the couch for maybe 2 days, and that's it. No long-term recovery at all. Especially since yours would be an after-birth surgery, yours would be much more invasive.
Just my opinion!

While I must agree that the vasectomy seems like the easiest answer, tubal ligation surgery has changed slightly from what we all remember. Apparently it can be minimally invasive now - post birth, through the belly button, and with lasers!
I don't have much information for you now, but my friend (in Annapolis, MD) is getting one done in a few months. She is having the procedure for two purposes: 1. She and her husband are finished having children 2. She gets terrible migraines with each cycle!
I'll try to get back to you with more information once she has the procedure! Keep my contact info. too just in case you don't hear from me . . .

I had a tubal after 2 children. They diod it right after my c-section. I am fine with it but I find my periods to be heavier bleeding and I feel like I am more moody..
