I was on the pill for years before trying to conceive my daughter. It took 10 months for us, and we were trying hard! LOL. My 2nd one was a suprise though! I stopped taking the pill again in June, and got pg with my 3rd in Sept. I am now 10 weeks! I was shocked at how fast I became pregnant! Guess I'm just fertile! Keep up the good work. It will happen when you least expect it. :)

I was on the pill for a long time and went off and three months later conceived my first son. I was on the mini-pill after his birth, and when ready to conceive #2, it was also 3 months later - and we had another boy! I think it can depend on a number of things but the pill can clear pretty quickly too.

Hi E.,
I hear about this a lot lately. One possibility is that your body has been accustomed to the synthetic hormones in birth control pills and that has caused an imbalance in your body's natural hormones. This is a fairly common occurence for many women. Birth control is made up of synthetic estrogen and progestin hormones which "do the job" but many of the effects from it can cause a significant imbalance in your body's naturally made hormones. Imbalance in your body's natural hormones then can cause a difficulty in getting pregnant as well as lead to many other health issues. A suggestion I have is to use a transdermal natural progesterone cream (progestin is synthetic). It's just a cream that you put on fatty tissues (under arm, chest, etc.) morning and night. It then helps your body's natural hormones balance out. I have my own health and wellness business and I run into many women with this same issue. I can give you information on how to find a high quality natural progesterone cream as well as info on hormone imbalance issues. It's good to educate yourself on what is out there that can hinder/benefit your body. Especially when you're preparing for a new pregnancy. If you want you can contact me privately and I can give you more info as well as my contact info.

It depends on how long you've been taking the pill but on average it takes three months for you system to go back to normal but have met others where it took longer. Once you miss a few days of your pill you can become pregnant (happens all the time) what makes it difficult is that you don't ovulate and menstrate on the normal cycle ,if at all, that you would because your body is trying to kick back into its natural rhythm. So it makes it difficult to know when to 'try' to conceive. Sometimes the timing is just 'off' but if you are concerned about other issues you should see your doctor. Good luck!!

I had been on the pill for 10+ years & went off in Sept. and got pg the first time trying last Jan. We now have a healthy baby girl that is 4 weeks old. We used basal temp charting and ovulation predictors given our age and that the Dr. said physiologically that both of us might have a hard time conceiving. Well, that was not the case at all!!!

You obviously have been successful at conceiving before. I have a friend who had 1 child and then had difficulty with conceiving another such that they did in vitro. She then had twins. She switched to a lower stress job and boom was pg and had another oops pg less than a year after the birth of the twins. Stress is known to play a big role in TTC.

I guess I would assume that the pill is out of your system and look for other things...stress...doing it at the right time etc.

Best of luck!

I went off the pill last December. According to my new doctor and of course, the internet, the pill is supposed to leave your system immediately. However, after suffering my first miscarriage in March, a family friend of ours (also a doctor) said that pill takers have an incredible high risks of miscarriage the first three months off the pill.

We have been trying since then with no luck. I suspect that I had two more miscarriages since then so I really have no idea if it is really related to the pill or just the fact that I am 35 now. I would imagine for you that after eight months that is not from the pill and could possible be other issues. I don't know what your age is but I was shocked to realize that my chances of getting pregnant are significately lower now that I am in the 35-44 age bracket than during my last pregnancy when I had my twins.

Funny thing is, I still feel the same age so why can't my body behave that way? :)

I think it's usually just a month or two for the pill to clear out. But your doctor should be able to tell you for sure. It can take awhile to get pregnant sometimes, I think up to a year is considered normal. I wouldn't worry just yet.

I believe it takes about 3 months for the pill to clear your system. Keep practicing and best of luck! :-)

Hi E.! I had been on the pill for 5 years, ever since my husband and I got married, and we just decided to try to have a baby. I went to the doctor to see what types of proper procedures I should take and she said that it may take a year for the pill to be cleared from my system. That's what I found out. Good luck!
