TriHealth Midwives at Good Sam?

Has anyone delivered with TriHealth Midwives at Good Sam? I got worried about my current OB/GYN when, at my 12-wk appointment, she suggested induction at 39 weeks since our first was 9.5 lbs. I'm not looking for homebirth, but I want a natural delivery. Too bad Miami Valley has the only birth center--it's too far away!

What can I do next?

My daughter just delivered her first baby (9 lb 3 oz boy) with them at Good Sam and was happy with the experience. They are willing to work with you if you want to use different aids, including a bath tub brought to the room. She was due the 8th and delivered without induction on the 13th.
There was a question about the "larger size" of the baby, but I informed them I had six babies (all naturally, at home) without any complications and they tended to be around 10 pounds average, ranging from 8 lb 8 oz to 11 lb 3 oz. Perhaps if you have a similar history with the females in the family, it may allay their concerns (although my mother's largest baby was 7 lb. she smoked and drank alcohol during pregnancy, which we know now reduces birth weight).
Congratulations and blessings to you and yours.

Hi D.,

I had a natural birth at Good Sam under the care of the midwives who were formerly Midwives Care. They had a freestanding birth center on the west side of Cincy, but were forced to shut down because of high-cost malpractice insurance, I believe. Anyway, I was pregnant in the middle of the birth center being closed, so had no choice but to deliver at Good Sam. I was a little worried to be honest, but I had the best nurses who were actually kind of in amazement to see a natural birth. They really enjoyed it I think. Long story short, 2 of the midwives who used to be with Midwives Care are associated with University. You might want to call there to see where they deliver babies now. Their names are Stephanie Deimling and Leah Terhune. I also have heard so many great stories about Dr. Bowen and have had many friends who delivered with him.

Hi D.,
I have 2 children and my 2nd was a natrual birth at Good Sam. I don't know anything about trihealth midwives, but I could refer you to the OB/Gyn I had. It is a group of women and they are very supportive of natural childbirth and work with you to follow the birth plan you want. Dr. Clark ###-###-####. I also had a birthing doula and that helped alot! She was with me during the entire labor begining at home and acted as my advocate to make sure I had the birth I wanted. I understand if you really want a midwife. I'm sorry I don't know anything about TriHealth Midwives. Hope this helps.

I used them for prenatal care and was very happy! Unfortunately, I had some complications and ended up on bedrest in the hospital (Good Sam) for the last six weeks of my pregnancy and then a c-section. However, when it was still early on and things were not certain yet, the midwives kept encouraging me that I might be able to have a natural delivery. They really are wonderful!!

I interviewed the TriHealth Midwives when we moved here 4 years ago. My 1st baby was delivered with the assistance of a midwives only practice in Seattle, and it was a wonderful, fully natural hypnobirth. I was looking for the same natural feel when I began seeking a provider here in Cinc. Personally, I was not impressed w/the TriHealth Midwives. The 2 that I met with seemed to have a very medical approach to birthing. Among other things, they failed my test question regarding a scheduled induction for the convenience of my family's schedule.

After lots of looking around and trying to avoid an OB (really wanted a midwife), I realized that I had 3 referrals to Dr. Daniel Bowen in Springdale. All 3 who referred me to him called him "a male midwife" b/c of his midwife-ish approach to pregnancy and labor/delivery. When I had my 1st appt w/him (just for my annual pap), I could immediately see how he earned this reputation. He's like a midwife trapped in a man's body. Long story short, 3 years after I made Dr. Bowen my OB, I delivered a beautiful baby girl, naturally with the use of hypnobirthing techniques. I can't speak highly enough of him. Dr. Bowen has rights at Mercy Fairfield and at Bethesda North. He helped me to choose Mercy Fairfield, feeling that they were the better choice for someone really wanting a natural birth.

As an added bonus, Jamison Bornemann, a doula practicing under the business name of Borne Inc. is right downstairs from Bowen's office and they work together frequently. I used Jamison as well and was very pleased with our experience.

I hope this helps.

Dr. Bowen is by far the BEST dr. to go to for a natural birth!
he goes to mercy fairfield, and Bethesda north. Mercy fairfield is a Baby friendly hospital, and has jet tubs in every room!

I am a doula, and he is known for being the BEST dr. to work with in this area!

Good sam on the other hand is NOT a place that i would go to for a natural birth. they rarely see an unmedicated birth from start to finish, especially because they are known for being a high risk hospital! the nurses are too used to all of the interventions, and not used to supporting a women through a natural delivery. At Mercy fairfield, i have not worked with a nurse yet who wasn't supportive of the mother's birthplan!

i hope that helps!

i wanted to add that if you really want a midwife, Stacy Hudapohl who works in dr.vardaka's office would be a close second to Bowen.
