Triaminc for 2 1/2 Year Old?

My daughter is about his age and we have used children's mucinex on her and we just cut down the dosage. We also like to use these Vicks vapor plugins. You plug into an electric outlet and the vapors come out of the little strips, my daughter would always get a rash from the baby vicks and we use these everytime she has a cold. I wouldn't give hem triaminic though, the deongestant is not good for them at such a young age, I don't even take decongestants myself because they make me feel funny.

NO, over the counter meds are not formulated for children under 6 anymore. The laws changed because children were dying from taking meds that were for older kids. Even though the parents were halving or quartering the dosages kids were not metabolizing the meds correctly and it was fatal. To me it is too much of a risk.

Just my personal opinion but why are you asking moms about a medical question that could potentially harm your child and not calling the doc or talking to the pharmacist? Please call someone that is a medical professional before taking advice from strangers that may not know anything about medications. The doc and/or the pharmacist may say it is fine but they know best.

It's my understanding that NO OTC meds are good for kids under 5. And NEVER guess at dosage. If there's not dosage listed for your childs age and weight--it's for a reason. Many people make fatal errors determining their own dosages. For example, infant meds are WAY more concentrated & people double or triple the dosage thinking "well, my kid weighs twice as much..." That's a really bad idea.

Colds stink but at that age stick to saline, Motrin, liquids, rest, propping the hear of crib/bed up a bit and run a cool mist humidifier at night.Hope he's better soon!

Please don't. The FDA recalled all children's cold and/or cough medications a few years ago and had them relabeled with dosages for ages 4 and over. Please read these articles and don't give your child any OTC cold/cough medications, even if everyone you know does and hasn't had any problems. You can use saline drops/spray and a suction ball to relieve congestion, a humidifier and a vapor rub like Little Cold's brand.

Be sure and put Vicks Vapo Rub on the bottom of his feet every night. This is not a joke. My doctor, my cousins doctor in Missouri and all my friends have heard of this. It is for adults as well with a cough or cold.
A teaspoon of honey given orally is also good for a cough.

I am a mature mom and my children are grown now, but when they were growing up I treated them with Triaminic Orange, but the meds have change so much, I would suggest you talk to your Pediatrician. Everything that my grandchild takes is prescribe by her doctor and she is 2 1/2, also. Make a phone call to be safe.

The anitihistamine in it will probably help him sleep but the decongestant is a stimulant (pseudoephedrine). It also makes the heart race in a lot of people. I steer clear of most of these types of meds for this reason. Little ones can't articulate when they are having an issue with a med.

I use Elderberry syrup from the health store and it helps with the respiratory system and also helps build the immune system so his little body can fight off the cold. Check the label for alcohol content. Some have it, some don't. It tastes good too so he'll probably like it....you can't overdose either if there's no alcohol content. A cold mist vaporizor should help as well.

We have. I just cut the dosage in 1/2. If the bottle says 1 tsp for a 6 year old I just gave a 1/2 tsp instead. Our doc said that it was fine, but we also used a humidifier, propped up the end of the bed and used shower soother's. Poor guy hope he feels better soon. Also, lots and lots of extra rest which is so difficult in a 2 1/2 year old.
