Treatment for ADD/ADHD

I was wondering if anyone has tried fish oils with DHA and EPA for a child with ADD, and if so, what was your experience like?
Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

After reading Heather and Caroline's responses I logged onto Amazon and bought this: http://www.carlsonlabs.com/product_detail.phtml?prodid=1e...
Unfortunately, my little girl won't swallow pills yet, but I am thinking of mixing it into lemonade, since it is lemon flavored. I will post an update..... Thanks so much for your replies!

I finally see this issue on this site! I have been giving my 4 year old son pharmacutical grade fish oil/DHA/RHA for over a year now for his sensory disorder. He is not ADD but sensory presents alot like ADD - the inability to concentrate, the constant movement, the crashing into things etc. Anyway, I have been taking my son to a pediatric chiropractor since he was two to help with this sensory - I will do anything! His chiropractor for over a year kept telling me to give my son fish oil. I never really thought about it until he was really having trouble at preschool and I was desperate. So I bought Dr. Sears Zone fish oil and started giving him. (He luckily will swallow pills). Within 4 days our lives changed. It was like having a new child. He was able to focus and control his actions 100% better than before. He was able to stop and pause to think about consequences of whatever naughty action he was about to do - it gives him the abilty to control his impulses so much better. My husband and I didn't know what to think - we couldn't believe it worked so quickly but his chiropractor said it does. About 8 months ago, I ran out of fish oil for our son and within 4 days I started getting calls from his school. I immediately started the fish oil again and within 4 days he was back to usual. I want to scream this info form the roof tops and how effective it is - but I know alot of parents are probably alot like I was - "Oh, I'll think about it..." and never really do until you're desperate. It has changed our lives - more importantly, it has allowed our sweet boy to cope much better in his environment. I HIGHLY recommend it. Please feel free to contact me if you want anymore info. Also, if you do try it, make sure you are buying pharmacutical grade fish oil - no mercury. ____@____.com

I have tried many supplements for add and adhd. I have a 10 year old of whom takes supplements for her adhd and have had great success. She takes opc's as well as fish oils. Recent studies show how fish oils effect brain functioning posistively. I have a back round in Psychology and nutrition and strongly recommend good nutrition and supplementation for treatind add and adhd. Please contact me for more info if you would like.

Wanted to share a kid friendly Omega-3 option with you...

We found a new product -OmegaBrite - which is high in Omega-3s and comes in an Orange or Tutti Frutti flavored liquid for kids. We have had great success in getting our extremely picky boys to take it. (Tutti Frutti is their favorite.)

Best of Luck! L.

I haven't used any natural rememdies yet, but I have an appointment with the ADD Health and Wellness Center and they specialize in natural treatments. If I learn anything about fish oils with DHA and EPA, I will contact you via this site. My appointment is on January 2, 2008.
