Traveling with a Highchair

They make a booster called the "on the go" booster seat and I always keep one in the back of my car in case we go somewhere that doesn't have high chairs or to someone's house that doesn't have a kid. It folds up nice and small and, while it doesn't have a tray on it, you can pull it right up to the table. It only costs around $20 and Target carries them in the baby/kids section (you can look online at Target.com to see what I'm talking about...just search for booster). Hope this helps! I have a feeding seat that straps to a regular chair. This seat can recline at three different angles, has a tray table, and has straps to secure your child in. I bought this for my first child in 2001 (who is now 8) and am currently using it for my third child who is 7.5 months. I purchased this style since I didn't want a separate high chair cluttering my kitchen area. If you don't want to use the tray table, then you can just pull up the chair to the regular table. It is so versatile!

This feeding seat (can't remember the official name) has worked wonders and we take it on all of our trips. It folds up nicely so it doesn't take up much room and it so easy to clean.

You can purchase boosters that strap to a chair and have a detachable tray. Maybe you can have your grandparents look at Target or Wal-Mart for you.

When we took a trip out of state to grandma's I bought a fisher price booster seat for about $20. It has a feeding tray, straps to any regular chair, folds up fairly compactly and the strap doubles as a carry strap.

I liked it so much I ditched our bulky high chair after the trip!

Are you planning on taking his stroller? If so you can just use that, if has like a little tray out in front. That is what I did whenever I went and visited anyone when my son was that age. If you aren't taking a stroller, then I think that one of those portable boosters is a great idea. They sell them at Target I think there is one made by the early years brand and is really cheap. It is nice because it straps to the chair and the baby. Best wishes and have fun!

We live in Galveston County, and my Mom lives in Marble Falls (just outside Austin) I had this same conundrum not too long ago. Are Grandma/Granpa willing to buy a second-hand high chair? My mother bought one from a thift shop for 6 dollars. We have used it two times and she donated it back to the shop. Essentially, we paid..ahem, I mean, Grandma paid, a few dollars for our own use and now someone will get futher use out of the donation. AND, we didnt have to haul extra "STUFF" with us!!!
Just a thought...after all...it doesnt have to be "high-dollar" to dine there a handfull of times.

Have you ever tried doing the old fashioned.. stacked books on the chair? When we were little we all just used telephone books or encyclopedias. Push the chair with the books and child right up to the table. You could strap a belt around the child and chair. I never knew of any child that fell off of it, cause we were so well watched over by the adults..

I think we purchase too many unnecessary items... Try borrowing a booster seat if you do not want to try the other, it is only a few days.

I wouldn't try putting your 1 yr old on phone books- probably a little too untable and wiggly at that age. I got this thing at Wal-mart- sorry not sure what it's called but I love it. I got it on the aile with the potty chairs and step stools- strangly enough. I like it because I can use it strapped to a chair or just on the floor somewhere- my daughter loved to use it as her own little chair.I looked on the WM website to find it and couldn't but I did find this http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4645522 and it seems really cool too. If you are worried about the mess on the table since there is no tray- get one of these- http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4631... Wal-Mart doesn't carry them in stores but Babies R Us does- they are with the sippy cups and such.
